My Honest Take On The Charge Vs Thunderbolt Debate...Now That I Also Have A Charge

This is what I never get about people with the HTC stigma over Samsung either. Ive owned plenty of HTC phones and for some reason folks like to act as if HTC hasnt and doesnt still have build quality issues. I mean I like their phones but im also realistic. Samsung needs to get better with the updates true enough, but simply put the Galaxy S2 will probably be the best phone offering out in the US this year. That depending on if the carriers here dont gimp it.

And not even just that, HTC's cameras still suck compared to Samsung, SAMOLED+ > qHD... it is what it is. If the SGS2 comes here without a locked bootloader im all over it. I have a friend that has the Infuse and the screen on that thing with the clarity is enough to make me switch in itself. Plus id use touchwiz about as I use sense, almost never. Sense is a nice UI but its a memory and battery hog. Dont believe me? Run an aosp rom without sense and see how much longer your battery lasts than it does now and how much more snappy your phone is.

Very true, most htc, guys are like "sense this sense that, touch wiz sucks". How about they both suck? Touch wiz us ugly and last laggy, and sense it's a resource hog. Sense 3.0 causes a dual core phone with 758 megs of ram to lag with live wall paper? What is this an evo? lol, my fascinate can run live wall paper without skipping a beat and scrolls smoother than a evo running cm7 without a live wall paper. Htc is unbeatable!!!!

Uh, it may not have a super amoled plus, but it does have a super amoled, and it's called a nexus s. A phone that verizon will never get because they can't bloat and bing the thing up.

I left off the part about Verizon lol. Yea if the Nexus S 4G were on Verizon I would buy it in a second. Leaving Verizon is non-negotiable.

And not even just that, HTC's cameras still suck compared to Samsung,

I dunno, I've seen plenty of pics posted from both TB and Charge and the TB photos blow away the ones I've seen from the Charge. Not only that but I owned the Fascinate and the pics didn't compare to the ones I saw from the Incredible.

Are you uploading the pictures on to the desk top? The fascinate takes even better photos than the I phone 4. Your the first and only person that thought the htc camera was better. Remember more mega pixel does not mean better camera. The soft ware and hard ware is better on the samsung. Check out any galaxy s variant forums and look at the uploaded pictures. They don't even look like it came from a phone esp the ones taken with the vignette app.

Also you guys say samsung sucks but when you look at you're own forums you see way more problem threads here than on the charge. Not to mention to the people who had a fascinate but didn't root and run a different rom, you lost out because for a while that would be the lightest, fastest, best camera, best screen, best gpu phone verizon before the thunderbolt came out. The fascinated still has a better gpu, and the phone is virtually unbrickable.

The reason I now have a ThunderBolt is because the Fascinate that I had failed me so many times. My ThunderBolt hasn't let me down yet really.
Too bad, I liked the screen on it, but it just had too many hardware and software issues.

I also had a Fascinate. Sold it to some poor sap and bought a Thunderbolt. Hardware wasn't bad but the software support was lackluster at best. How long did it take to get Froyo again? Not to mention the HTC development community is leaps and bounds ahead of those for Samsung devices.

Leaked froyo came out 4 months after the phone launched which in all honesty wasnt much different than the official release, with the same amount of problems. You can blame it all on bing search. Verizon butchered that phone. But it was at least better than having a locked down droid x where development us basically at a stand still.

What was the excuse for the lag in the updates for the other US Galaxy S phones? Samsung has a lot of work to do with their US support otherwise they're going to ruin what should be the best android phone in the Galaxy S II

The Revolution looks great and. I would have to disagree with all the people who say the charge feels plasticy or cheep. It felt like neither to me, just not as well built as the Thunderbolt. Though I was actually looking at the Revolution vs. Thunderbolt. I think the revolution could easily give the bolt a run for its money. Thats just my opinion though.

Hmm about that.. I think alot of people think the Galaxy s2 is the best android phone. But most of them are only looking at the specs, they aren't paying attention to the ui which is a major part of the phone. Touchwiz is absolutely horrible in my opinion, its slow laggy, is cartoonlike, and treminds me to much of ios. Though when it comes to the build quality it goes ahnd down to the Sensation. But other areas go to the Galaxy S2. Teh Amoled screen looks great though. Haha dare we call it Retina? Those exynos chips are amazing on the inside of the phone blazingly fast. Not sure if the Exynos chips will be ascynchronus or synchronus, only time will tell.

I guess you dont realize how big of a following non sense roms on HTC phones have. Thats one of the biggest reasons so many people were complaining about not being able to flash custom roms on the 3D if HTC started locking the bootloaders. I dont like touchwiz, but I dont like Sense either.

meh, I didn't really think touchwiz on the Fascinate was all that bad. Never had any lag granted I didn't have a stock phone loaded with clutter. I had adw launcher on an OG Droid prior to the Fascinate and was already using the horizontal scrolling app drawer so it was an easy transition. The new Touchwiz on the Galaxy SII seems to be getting much better reviews also. As for Sense UI, the Thunderbolt is my first HTC phone. Haven't had any lag issues and like the widgets although they tend to be a bit overdone and screen hogs. The Sensation and Sense 3.0 looks nice and if the das BAMF Sense 3.0 preview is any indication of how it will look/perform, it'll definitely be near the top with the Galaxy SII. The previous generation of snapdragons have left me less than impressed so we'll see what qualcomm can do with dual cores.

Thanks OP for the review, I was on the fence myself before I purchased my Thunderbolt. Honestly, and this may seem unrealistic to some, but the physical buttons at the bottom of the Charge took the whole "touchscreen" experience away from me, to an uncomfortable level. I felt the exact same way about my Droid X, which I loved sans the physical buttons. I think in Android we utilize "back" entirely too much...In my opinion anyway.

Hmmm....I thought this was a Charge vs Thunderbolt thread, with the OP giving an opinion, and people commenting on that opinion.

This thread is on the fringe of being way off-topic and getting closed. I would really not like to do that, though, since I do like a good discussion on topics like this.

Re: My Honest Take On The Charge Vs Thunderbolt Debate...Now That

I had the thunderbolt. Reboots, lockups, poor poor poor poor battery, noise cancelling was terrible. I found myself as well as my callers always saying "what". The phone feels nice in the hand however, its weight made it bounce annoyingly in the car dock while using GPS. Have had the charge battery lasts all day, touch wiz not as nice as sense but the phone never reboots. Camera is much better and call quality is that of the droid x. I think the perfect phone would be a cross between the droid x, the charge and the bolt. Touch wiz would be great if they changed the nasty orange and brown colors out of it. Prefer the charge over the bolt hands down.

Tbolt wins because of 3 small words: talk AND data.

Just to clarify, the Charge can do talk and data over 4G LTE, but not on 3G. The Thunderbolt can do talk and data over 4G LTE and 3G (due to SVDO radio installed in the TBolt).

They reboot problem is fixed. Anyone who still have reboots after the new software update and a factory data rest and pulling the. SIM card for 30 seconds should exchange their phone because thy have one with a hardware defect.

Re: My Honest Take On The Charge Vs Thunderbolt Debate...Now That

The Charge's developer support is not even on the same level as the Thunderbolt's. That's what is most important to me, and will be a deciding factor in my next phone as well
