My HTC Incredible is stuck on the update screen..how can I move past this?

Hello,
I got my brand new phone today and saw it needed a software update. Now it's been stuck on the update screen with no progress bar

For several hours. I've tried charging it, not charging it. Pressing the up volume button and power button at the same time (vibrates, with a black screen). I've even stuck a pin in the hard reset bit (does nothing). When I take the battery out it and restart it just goes to the same screen. It has no progress bar either..
