My HTC M9 gets very hot!? BRAND new today!

Literally my HTC M9 arrived today and right now I'mjust browsing on the internet and doodling on my phone then I notice the back of the phone is very hot? Not bacon sizzling hot like quite warm? Why is this happening? I'm sure this isnt normal because I never experience overheating on my phone experiences. I have downloaded all the updates on the phone. Do I need to turn on/off a setting or something? I really really appreciate the help

You should be fine most of the newer phones heat up . With your being metal well you'll notice it more my gs6 gets hot sometime when I'm working it hard

Hot, as in warm your hands if it's below freezing (or any hotter)? Bring it back.

Hot, as in noticably warmer than unheated plastic objects in the room? Probably normal.

Why don't you install gsam battery monitor and actually see what the temp is. If you have never had a metal phone before you will notice more heat to the touch but that doesn't mean it is overheating. Post back when you have some actual temp stats so we can give you a better answer.

40-50° C does seem a bit high. Mine typically runs in the 30-40° range. It did get hot on the first day I had it though. I can remember the rep at the store handing it to me after inserting the sim card and getting it going, it was really hot. Eventually it settled in. And after updating and wiping cache, it no longer gets hot.

I had the same issue with my M9. I kept the phone for a few days to see if the problem would fix itself, but it didn't. Mine went up to about 45c, which I thought was not only very uncomfortable to use, but possibly dangerous as well. I returned the phone within the buyer remorse time frame.

I'm back to using my M8, which is actually a replacement unit because the first M8 they gave me also had an overheating issue and fried itself. Luckily, this replacement unit doesn't overheat, although it does go up to 41-42c tops, which I think is still a bit warm.

Mine tends to hit 45c-50c plus whenever i am using an app for anything more than just a quick check.

Unfortunately i am over the 14-day period. So i guess it's time to take it back to sprint to have the tech's go at it. =(
