my keyboard wont pop up anymore?

ok so i have a samsung galaxy light and its a really old phone but i still like to use it. about a week ago i went on a trip and i couldn't connect anywhere, but i blame my cellphone network. anyways, when we were leaving to go back home i tried to type something and i noticed my keyboard wouldn't pop up anymore. i just assumed that it was being slow again and i would just wait till i got home where i had better wifi. i got back home and i tried to type something again but the keyboard would still not pop up. i went into settings, i clicked language and input, and the options to check off which keyboard to choose, samsung keyboard or swype, was kinda greyed off, like it wasnt even an option anymore. its been a week now and every time i try to type, it wont let me. ive googled to see how other people do it but i already tried those things and they were either too modern for my phone or ive already tried it and it didnt work.

ive already tried to do things from google but some dont apply to my phone

i really dont want to switch phones because i really like this phone but if theres no other solution then i guess im kinda screwed here

If you were connected to a BT device when this happened check the BT menu to see if the device is connected as an input device. Had this happen a few days ago on a Galaxy tablet, for some reason when connected to a speaker it was able to become an input. Before I de-selected the input option in the BT menu settings for the speaker the on screen keyboard would not pop up.

Had the same problem, on a samsung note 4 ... took it everywhere - reset to factory original settings... gave up and just went onto google playstore and typed in android keyboard - selected the one of the free no ad keyboards and its better than the original keyboard! Answer was right in my face the whole time! Suffered without a keyboard and had to use the "google handwriting" for so long when I could have just downloaded a new keyboard online
