My lock button clicks in and out fine, but isn't working

My s4's lock button still clicks in and out properly but doesn't work, when I put the battery back in it turns itself on and back off again after the first boot screen without me even pressing the button, I am unable to turn my phone on at all

Welcome to Android Central! Are you sure it's a problem with the button? Maybe the battery is failing, which could cause the phone shut off soon after powering on.
