My Moto G 2nd generation went from over 90 battery to shutting off. What would cause this?

My Moto G 2nd generation went from over 90% battery to shutting off.

Would not start until I plugged it in. Battery was now 5%! What would cause this?

It is a possibility that your battery could be permanently damaged. In which case, you will need a new one!

Moto G models are notorious for this kind of issue. It happened to me on Lollipop once and now on KitKat as well. You're not alone and hopefully it isn't serious...
