my moto xplay is lagging like anything after the new update.

How long has it been since the update? Often there is a settling in period just after an update for 24 to 48 hours as your device adjusts to the new software. Sometimes other programs will run updates in conjunction with the update, especially it it was a major like 6.x to 7.x for example.
