Okay, so I called and added unlimited hotspot for $30. The way the lady framed it on the phone is that I'll be paying my data charge PLUS the $30. Doesn't that mean I'm paying twice for data? Once for my 2GB plan and once more for the unlimited?

Anyway, I'm supposed to turn off mobile hotspot now? What's the end result supposed to be? I'm paying $10 extra overall for unlimited?

They throttle phones that use large data amounts because they assume you're tethering. Verizon charges extra for tethering.

I've used 14.25GB just for tethering since I got this phone. I know, I'm bad. I'm sorry for ruining unlimited data for everyone else.

I'd like to know this too. Can I get my DH in on this, who now has ATT but wants to come back to Verizon due to the crap reception.

Can I add a dumbphone line and then do this trick for him so I end up paying $30 for unlimited data and $10 for a basic phone line?

Glad I'm grandfathered for unlimited data also. On my DX (3G) the most data that I ever used in a month was ~750MB. That was with no wifi usage at all. On my GNex I've already used 1.4GB and I still have 10 days left in my billing cycle. Plus, I use wifi quite frequently as well. In fact, if not for wifi, I bet I'd be closer to 2.5 to 3GB.
