My OK Google option 'from any screen' suddenly disappeared, where could it have gone?

My workaround until Google fixes this is to just long press the home button. It's not as nice as hands free, but it is as easy as launching the camera, which everyone seems to think is pretty damn easy.

Mine didn't work, but I went into the setting of Google Now and turned off the voice and then turned it back on. After that, a notification appeared telling me to retrain my "Ok Google". I did that and now it works again for me from any screen.

I'm happy that this worked for you (I would ask you to report back and tell us if this stays 'stable' - I'm betting not over time but who knows).

I'm sure I can speak for the majority of us here, if not for all of the rest of us, that we have all tried this many, many times over the past days and I can say at least for me, it has never brought the options back. Not sure why it worked for you but glad it did :)

Re: "OK Google" option 'from any screen' suddenly disappeared

It should be there

Settings - System - Language and Input - Voice Input - Enhanced Google Services - "OK Google" Detection

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S6!

I'm on AT&T and the above is still fully functional for me as I type this message. As long as I'm not actively in an app - meaning I'm on any page of my desktop, not just the "home" page or in the google app, or on a page w/ the google search bar - then all I have to do is say "ok google" and it activates and awaits my voice command.

Unless it used to work even if you were actively in an app, then I don't know what everyone is complaining about.

What in the blazes? If you do not care for a post, there is no need to respond. Move along! Move along!

Or.. hit the report button; that works too.

Thanks!

The ability to use it from any home screen is what is gone. We no longer have that option under the OK Google Detection settings. All that lives there now is "From the Google app". Nothing else. Check yours in a few days and my bet is the option will be gone. You're lucky that yours still works from any homescreen. Are you on the stock Touchwiz launcher?

I'm not sure what to tell you. I'm using Android 5.0.2 on an AT&T GS6 (SM-G920A). I'm using Nova Prime + Tesla Unread as my launcher/notifier. When I check for OS software updates, it's telling me that my software is up to date (I just checked it again to make sure).

Here are screen shots of my settings pages relevant to this issue:

I clearly see in my settings what everyone is talking about, but as I stated before ... on ANY of my "home screens", I can say "OK GOOGLE" and it works just fine. The only time "OK GOOGLE" does not work is if I'm actively in an app.

Now, THAT SAID ... I just checked something within Nova Prime settings, and there is an "OK GOOGLE" setting ... Here is the page from that portion of Nova Prime - which I have enabled - and perhaps THAT is what is allowing me to use OK GOOGLE from any home page.

I don't recall having to turn this on when I installed Nova Prime (I think it comes enabled by default, but really I'm not sure). I also don't know if this is making any real difference, or if it just allows the Nova launcher to interact w/ the "ok google" command in general - but relies on the system settings for how/when it works.

I gave Wiggums suggestion a try and I have the voice command from Google back on all screens. Took me only about 20 minutes to setup my pages again.
Also, I used the free version of Nova.

On Nova's settings there is an option under "desktop" that allows you to place a 'persistent search bar' on every page. That, plus the hotword recognition together is probably why it is working for you on every page. It's not quite the same as working from any screen - essentially you are activating the Google search widget on each and every screen. That is one way to get partial function. I have it set that way myself for now.

For the record, i have NO "google search bars" on ANY of my home screens. I have always found they are not necessary in any way, especially now that you can long-press the home button to pull up Google Now.

All I really know is, on my S4 I had no issues with saying "OK Google" ... and with Nova Prime on my S6, I have no issues either. I'd have to go get my S4 and mess with it to see if "OK Google" worked within apps etc instead of only on a home screen or in the app drawer - not that it matters so much now, but I may go see just out of curiosity.

As for the original point of this thread ... It obviously seems like a google issue to me, not a samsung issue. And even though it's been about a week and this is still not resolved, I'd find it hard to believe that Google is letting this issue linger. I'm sure they are working on it to restore full functionality as quickly as possible. There is no good reason I can fathom as to why they would have removed these features on purpose, or why they would not want to restore them as quickly as they can.

Re: "OK Google" option 'from any screen' suddenly disappeared

Was definitely working for me on all screens before the update and now it only works on screens where I have the Google widget added.

AT&T s6

I am not sure why I did not know this before, but a long press on the home button opens up Google Now from any screen and even within apps, and this definitely helps with the loss of the OK Google functionality.

I don't know why you keep talking about your home screens. This thread is about the option missing for doing it from any screen.

Unfortunately, that was a verbatim repost of what he/she posted 6 days ago in the same forum.

True, I didn't notice the language was almost identical. Still, I'll take vague reassurance over inability to acknowledge the problem. ;)

Re: "OK Google" option 'from any screen' suddenly disappeared

My new S6 is missing Google Now always on, my Note 4 had it this morning before I "Jumped".
