Here's what I have done to setup my Nexus 6 to the way I lke it:

1. Notifyer Plus app- Gives me numerical badges for all my calls, texts and emails.

2. YouMail- Personalized call greetings.

3. Textra Text Messaging- Clean UI. I like it a lot better than Messenger.

4. SpeakerPhone Ex Pro - Turns my speaker on automatically when I make a call.

5. Zedge Ringtones- I have separate ringtones for calls, emails or texts. Allows me to listen for low priority emails but respond to texts as a higher priority.

6. Screen brightness- controlled manually

7. Battery widget- gives me % in upper left notification area.

8. Notes- Use Color Note to keep track of things. I also have Evernote which is cross platform, but I haven't used it much.

9. MySMS- use it on my MacBook Pro to send messages

10. DoubleTwist and AirSync- use it to transfer music from my Itunes library to my N6. Works really well.

11. PhotoTransfer- Wirelessly transfer photos between my MacBook Pro and N6 and vice versa.

12. Wondershare Mobile Trans- Puts a complete backup copy of my N6 on my MacBook Pro.

13. Mobile Go- keeps track of my RAM and automatically, at my command, clears RAM

I use all stock apps for phone control. I hate clogging my phone with tons of 3rd party apps. I subscribe to the KISS method. But whatever floats your boat.

Doubletwist - Well why not use Android Transfer for mac? Much better then other staff like yours?
I'm using Tesla Notify what ever is calling for Nova Launcher. Works pretty well. Whats wrong with stock Messenger?
