My outgoing texts are stuck in sending Why aren't they sending?

My outgoing texts are stuck in "sending"

I have a Samsung Galaxy S III and I downloaded my email contacts to my phone when I set up email access on my phone. Now I have double entries of phone numbers for each contact and when I try to send a text, text stays stuck in sending mode and they are not sent, not received.
