Phone is locked with a fingerprint but has for i can now only unlock with an alternative password

My galaxy s5 phone is locked with a fingerprint swipe but has for some reason i can now only unlock with an alternative password which i have not set up to my knowledge. How do i unlock my phone?

Welcome to Android Central! If you set it up for fingerprint unlock in the first place, you would have been prompted to select an alternative password.

I never set up my samsung galaxy s5 to have any lock much less the fingerprint scanner. But there it is and NOW it suddenly requires an alternative password of which i have none because i never set one of those up either!!
