My physical power button on my tablet now does volume and not power, how do I fix this?

I have a LG G Pad F2 8.0, I leave my tablet in my bag and use it only a few days a week usually. Last week I pulled it out and it was on and now when I press the power button to shut down or reboot it increases the media volume.

Is there a software way to reset this back to it's default? I have already tried factory reset, all that did was wipe out my files and profile.

Or is this a hardware malfunction.

It came up in recovery mode. the power button continued to act like a volume up button, so I wasn't able to select anything. The only thing I could do was scroll through the options or hold power and volume down to reboot.

Welcome to Android Central! I moved this from the G Pad 8.3 to the G Pad F2 8.0 forum.

It sounds like something might have gotten damaged -- perhaps something hit the tablet or applied pressure to it while it was in the bag, such that the pressure you apply to the Power button is somehow being transmitted to the Volume button's contacts? You'd probably have to bring it to a repair shop to diagnose the problem.

Thanks, that's what I was starting to think also when I couldn't do anything in the recovery mode.
