My running app randomly stops working on Honor 7

I bought an Honor 7 back in July, and ever since then my running apps randomly stop working. It almost never works for longer than a couple of hours or so (my last three sessions cut out after 63, 102 & 89 mins), and then it just stops without any warning.

I'm not sure what the phone was delivered with, but it has now updated itself to Android 6.0. It didn't work before the update and it doesn't work now. I'm 99% sure that this isn't an issue where it can't find a GPS, as my previous phone had no problems and I haven't changed my routes. The GPS always seems to be picking up strong signals.

It has been suggested on other sites that it might be the power manager turning my app off, but the running apps I use are protected. I can't see a way of turning off the power manager to test that theory out.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Other than ditch the phone and go back to my old one.

Welcome to Android Central! Which apps are doing this? Are they running in the foreground or background?

Hi! I use Runkeeper mainly, but I've tried it with Google Fit too and it still failed after about 70/90 mins. I've tried it running in the foreground and the background, but it doesn't make a difference. I'm really just looking for any ideas to try, which will be gratefully received.

Any other 3rd party battery-saver apps installed? Or a carrier-branded app that either the carrier installed or you installed?
