So I decided to ditch iOS and come back to Android with an S8+ -- my first foray back into Android since a less-than-thrilling experience with an LG G2.

What do I need to know about the latest version of the OS and what are "must-do's" for day one with the phone?

I already have the following accessories waiting:
  • Samsung Level U Pro Wireless Headphones (for days when I want earbuds)
  • Bose QuietComfort 35 Noise-Cancelling Wireless Headphones (for days when I want over-ears)
  • Samsung Gear S2 Wach
  • Samsung Gear S3 Frontier Edition Watch (on order)
  • Samsung Gear VR with Controller
  • Samsung Fast Charge Wireless Charging Convertible
  • Samsung Fast Charge Wireless Charging Pad
  • extra USB-C cables (Fast Charge and regular)
  • Lifeproof Fre case
  • UAG Pathfinder case
  • PopSocket with PopSocket Mount
  • OBYOBY Tempered Glass Screen Protector
  • PNY Elite 128GB microSDXC U1 Card
  • Anker PowerCore 13000 Portable Charger

Yes, I'm over-prepared... will the tempered glass protector & UAG case be enough protection? I bought the Lifeproof before reading some mediocre reviews online.

Any must-have apps?

You're not going to like the glass and case fitment. Get a plastic skin style screen protector and trim the edges.

You are way ahead of the curve so all you need to do is spend some time with the interface and learn it. That's all you have to do. You've got it all covered. Watch several interface reviews on YouTube and you'll be set.

Return the pny elite card and get a Samsung Evo+. The pny can't keep up with the camera and you will get fragmented photos. I know from experience.

Be prepared also for Bluetooth to stutter on the level u pros. That's what I use and when you put your phone in your pocket it gets interruptions.

I always download my VPN and 1password first. hide notification content from lockscreen. set up secure boot. turn on do not track in chrome. then install all my apps lol. you'll probably want to set up bixby after applying all the updates.

Ahead of the "curve"

Setup Samsung Pay, use it a few times and begin your rewards, use my referral code DC622B and get $5 when you use it for the first time. Then set up Bixby and use it a few times for some more S Pay rewards. Also, Bixby is actually somewhat useful so try it out just for yourself. Download Google Opinion Rewards from the Play Store and start taking surveys to earn Google Play money to spend in the app store. I get about $1 a week for maybe a minute of my time total. Download any themes you like and test them out, launchers are also pretty awesome, though not a must. Get your favorite music, apps, and photos on there and set up like any other phone. Play with the security settings until you feel good about it and then enjoy. Also, when you set up an alarm make sure you set the frequency and time period for your "snoozes". Mine were set to 3 snoozes at 5 minutes a piece and that was no good for weekends.

Not sure if you already did this but open developer options and change all the animation scales to 0.5
