My S8 suddenly locked up.

It had been sitting on my desk, I picked it up and the screen went black with the phone becoming completely unresponsive. Pressing the home button gave me a faint vibration but nothing else. No lights, nothing.
So, before I went into panic mode, I found a hint somewhere to press vol down and power key and it went into restart without any apparent ill effects. I breathed a sigh of relief, glad that it hadn't died actually, which was my first thought and it's only six months old.
It's worth mentioning that I'm in the Oreo beta, v3 and posted my error log through the members app as one or two people are having random restarts.
Might be useful for others to know about this kind of reset, if they don't know already.

It happened to me, people from the forum told me it was normal, that it happens sometimes on samsung phones.

Go to Settings, Device Maintenance
Click on the icon in top right - piece of paper looking.
That will show recorded crashes and freezes if possible.
And there was 2-3 beeps when app unexpectedly quits, freezes or crashes.

So yes it it is not totally unexp acted during beta, though b3 has been well behaved for me after I setup the phone from scratch and avoided restoring anything.
