My Samsung Galaxy 8 has stopped receving text messages unless I initiate the conversation first?

I can send a message and get a reply, but if someone sends me an unprompted text message I am not receiving them. I have had the phone for about a month and my carrier is T-Mobile. Help!!

I was using the messaging app that comes with Facebook, but I also opened the message app that comes on the phone and it's not working there either
