and turnded it on in recovery mode... pressed the volume up key to do the OS it has now showing the screen with the android icon and says downloading... do not turn off target. yet its seems it has frozen at this point. has been on this screen for about 10mins... What should i do now?? Please help

You must have booted it up in Download mode (Home + Volume Down + Power) - it'll stay in that mode until you pull the battery, hold the Power button for about ten seconds or until the battery dies. That's normal - it's waiting for you to connect the phone to your computer and download something.

You can try booting into Recovery mode (Home + Volume Up + Power) and clearing the system cache.

Or you can try the Kies software or a tool called Odin (just Google it - look for v3.07) to reload the firmware. If you decide to use Odin you can look for the firmware here - select your device in the drop-down list in the upper left corner.

There is deff a problem with the power buttons easy fix if your phone boots automatically when putting the battery in is to take the board out wet a Q tip with alcohol and press the button with the Q tip to get the alcohol inside then clean out the inside of the phone where the power button sits then with your finger repeatedly press the power button then reassemble the phone give it a few minutes for the alcohol to evaporate then put the battery back in if it doesnt automatically boot problem solved if it does then pull the battery turn the phone with button side down and keep pressing the button and try the battery again.

my phone did this too and its now been three days not working I took it to telus and they couldn't figure it out either. when I Plug it into the charger it shows a battery but does not for a minute then shows a fully charged battery I can not get any life out of it unless on the charger I have tried rebooting it and have erased everything still nothing help please I have tried everything ...

I bought this galaxy s3 from someone on craigslist. the phone is perfect except port, he mention how it charged when it wanted to. To charge you have to hold it a certain way and then battery would not hold charge. it charge 1% in 1 hour and would not charge any longer. after, the software began actin strange. the phone would not charge not from the port but system. i think there is something wrong with the system. it keeps vibrating as i turn it on , but wont turn on. what should i do?

To boot into recovery turn the phone OFF. Leave it off.

The press, simultaneously, the volume UP, Home and Power buttons. Hold them until you see the Samsung logo on the screen, then release all three.

Once in recovery, use the volume up and down buttons to select the Factory Reset option, then press the power button.

I doubt that a Factory Reset is going to solve your problem; even wiping the system cache in Recovery mode likely won't help - but it can't hurt to try (remember that the Factory Reset wipes your data).

Sounds like you're going to have to reload the firmware using the Kies software or a tool called Odin. Make sure that your phone boots into Download mode (follow the same steps the previous poster listed except use Volume Down instead of Volume Up).

Hello everyone! I have an issue with my Samsung Galaxy s3 I747. I tried to factory reset it to delete all the files and start fresh. However, I didn't do a back up on Kies Air because I wasn't aware of it at the time. So after I did the factory reset, my phone won't start (stuck at the Samsung logo). It's like it's stuck in a infinite loop. I tried the Recovery mode and tried every option to no avail. Finally I did some research and download Kies air but it's saying there is no firmware for my version (SGH-I747) in Download mode. What else can I do?
I'm good with electronics, but i cant seem to figure this one out.

Do you mean Kies or Kies Air? You can't use Kies Air to reload the firmware.

Which firmware version did your phone have (4.1.2? 4.3? etc)?

Does the phone boot into Download mode?

My Samsung Galaxy s3 has been having that same problem as Kerron B. My phone won't go past the Samsung logo no matter what I do after a factory reset. I took the battery out, etc. I downloaded Kies onto my laptop but it says "device is not responding". What am I supposed to do?

Welcome to the forums!

It's pretty common for it to say that but you should still be able to select the second item in the Tools menu and follow the prompts and have it reload the firmware. Be sure you're using the correct version of Kies for the firmware that's on your phone (Kies v2.6 for firmware <= 4.1.2; Kies v3 for firmware >= 4.3).

Or you can use a tool called Odin to reload the firmware.

Sounds like it's time replace the screen assembly (~$120); given the cost it may be a better idea to invest that in a new phone (off contract). The Moto X and Moto G are great values.

Plugging in the charger without the battery, then placing the battery in the phone finally worked for me - at least I saw the charging icon initially. It was at 1% . Now the screen is black - probably the phone is on OFF (lost track) and I will try to turn it on after an hour of charging. Will report back.

I have read all this and nothing helps my phone. I know the battery is charged because I have both switched with one from a working S3 and placed it on my wireless charger and the battery heats up after a few hours. my S3 is just dead. Does nothing, as if the battery is not even there. No vibration, no charge screen, no logo splash, nothing. I dont know what happened but it seems mine is just dead.... I think this is the phone Samsung replaced the motherboard on a year or so ago. Looks like it has gone bad again.

In order to be able to use the Kies software to reload the firmware, the phone has to at least be able to boot into Download mode (with the phone completely off, press and hold the Volume Down and Home and Power buttons simultaneously, and release them all when you see the Samsung splash screen).

If you can't get the phone to boot into Download mode there's nothing we can do to help you. You can search for 'JTAG services' and see if you can find someone that offers that - otherwise it's time for Samsung repair or insurance replacement.

I can get to Download mode but it still refuses to connect to Kies, It does try to connect though. Any ideas?

Don't worry about whether Kies says it's connected or not - just select the second item in the Tools menu and follow the prompts.

I tried this - pulling batter, waiting, putting it back in while plugged in and it worked. I used the phone for several minutes, set it back down, tried to turn it back on and I am back to the black screen again. Any ideas? is this a potential loose connection of the screen? Need to wipe the phone? any ideas would be greatly appreciated. This is my teenage sons phone so as you can imagine his whole life is caught up in this thing
