My Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge factory reset itself. How? Why?

My Samsung Galaxy 6 Edge+ did a factory reset all on its own three weeks ago. I wasn't touching or evening using it. Initially I wasn't too devastated because I knew that I had my phone set up to have all pictures and videos backed up to Google Drive. You can imagine my surprise when I logged in to Google Drive only to discover that none of my pictures and videos were there. In fact, it appears that nothing has been saving from before the day that I activated this phone (Sept. 13th). Over two months of data cannot be found. I find that to be so strange, because when I periodically checked, I saw my pictures in Google Drive. Chats with Verizon, Google, and Samsung reps have been useless. A Verizon rep even told me that this has happened to all sorts of devices and there is 'no rhyme or reason for it'. She assured me that she's never seen it happen to a phone twice. That's comforting. After searching online, I noticed that others who have experienced this have blamed the recent software update for causing the reset. I'm curious whether another else has experienced this. The consensus is that my data is lost forever and there's 'no way' to retrieve it. A friend even tried to use some recovery software but that didn't work. If someone has a suggestion for what to try, I'm all ears.

My s6 edge just did the same thing pulled it out of my pocket after maybe 10 mins of not using it and it was asking me to pick a language

Hello

I know it's been about 6 months since your post but I also have a Samsung Galaxy s6+ Edge. I got my phone about a year ago and it just randomly did a system reboot today. I didn't give it permission or anything. I was listening to Spotify and picked up my phone and the screen went black and a bunch of matrix like numbers popped up for a couple seconds and then took a few minutes to restart. During the restart I saw that it was "updating" and deleting things and before I knew it was asking me to select a language. Wiped me entire phone clean. I wonder if this was a factory defect on the hardware. Did you keep your phone since you last experienced this? If so, has it done it again? I'm wondering if I should switch phones through Verizon before I personalize everything again. I would hate to see it happen all over again. =0
