Hello, all. I'm a sad child who just wants to listen to music :( .
I have been having very many issues with my amazing <Samsung Note 9>. I've had it since December 2018, and this problem only started a few days ago.
When my phone has my only earbuds in,
The device will show the media popup levels and "tap" randomly. Sometimes to max, sometimes around min.
Music will pause, Randomly play another song, Play over other audios like Youtube and pause it. Frustrating.
It also messes with my Ringtone.
Not to mention, it obnoxiously pops up Google Assistant and *gifts* me lag.
At random, it will also just "tap" all over the screen..
I REALLY hope my phone is fine. I have no other device to backup this one...Can anybody help?

Welcome to Android Central! Are these wired or Bluetooth earbuds? If they're wired, are they specifically "Made for iPhone"? If so, those can often be incompatible with Android devices, since iPhones have a slightly different headphone jack configuration.

Hello, Thank you! These are wired earbuds, NOT iPhone OR Samsung; probably from some sort of company like Skullcandy or such, I don't know where they came from...

They have worked for a while, but then they just lagged my phone out.
If I didn't mention, I tried a lot of things. I factory reset my phone(sadly lost all photos even when I backed up everything,) and tried using them in my Chromebook for school. They didn't do anything to the chromebook. In fact, they work well with the computer more...

My mother gifted me her earbuds and my phone has no abnormalities so far, it's been a few hours and there has been no sign of any volume fluctuation, screen lag, songs switching.

I still don't know why this had happened with just my Galaxy Note9 and not a chromebook, I will do more tests on other devices that I can borrow from peers and see if the Earbuds are actually dangerous for every device....

Try also blowing out the headphone jack with a can of compressed air, and use a toothpick to root around for any debris that might remain stuck in there.
