For those of you who are considering the purchase of a TF700 (or any ASUS product), I thought my story would be beneficial in your decison.
It all started back in February when I broke the screen on my TF700 after owning it for about 4 months. It had been running great up to that point (a few issues with lag). I sent it in for a screen replacement, which took 8 WEEKS (yes, 8 weeks). I made several irrate calls to their service department and kept getting promise after promise on a delivery date, but it kept dragging on. I finally called and talked to "supervisor" and made a bunch of threats and finally the tablet was delivered. When I got it back, I found out that they replaced the whole tablet. They said that the internals needed to be replaced to correct some issues with the touch screen on the existing hardware (not related to the cracked screen), so they just did a full replacement. I thought, okay fine, a new tablet is a good thing (so I thought).
The replacement tablet worked for about 2 weeks, then I started getting random reboots and freezing. At least 2 times a day I had to do a cold reboot to get the system back up. After about 1 week, I tried to do a cold reboot and I got a message that said something like "encryption failed, you must do a factory reset- all data would be lost". I did the factory reset and started out with a clean tablet, which I thought would correct the issue. This happened about 5 more times and finally, It got stuck stuck on the "ASUS - Inspiring Innovation" screen and woudl not reboot. I called ASUS and they said they have never heard of that issue happening, but asked me to send it in for service. I sent it in and 3 weeks later I got back the tablet with a work order that said "NO PROBLEM FOUND". You can imagine my anger....
I turned on the tablet and within 5 minutes, it did a random reboot. Then, over the next 1/2 hour it rebooted 10 times and finally got stuck on the "ASUS - Inspiring Innovation" screen. I hadn't even had a chance to load any apps, so I know that was not the issue. I called ASUS again and they told me to send it back in. At this point I was beyond pissed off and told them that I wanted a replacement sent to me. I was transfered to a "supervisor" who told me that they will not do a replacement. I will have to send it in for repairs. He was not at all sympathetic to the fact that they have been the cause of me being without my tablet for so long.
In case you have not kept track of the time line here, it has been 5 months since I had a working tablet........
If you want a tablet that is backed by a company with a strong service department, with good customer service, ASUS is not your best choice. I sent an email to their customer service department explaining all the problems I have had and I got back a reply "We are sorry you have not been satisfied with your ASUS product". That was it.
Sorry about the ramble, but every company stumbles from time to time, but this is more than a stumble. This was just incompetence. I just wanted people to know about it.
