My thoughts of the Galaxy z flip

I think the concept is very intriguing. However, if I wanted to get a folding screen phone, I think I would want the Galaxy phone because I would want to clamshell form factor to unfold to a tablet. I don't need a three and a half inch flip phone screen unfolding to a 6.3-in screen of my Pixel 3 XL. I already have that. Also, for the Galaxy z flip, the outside screen with that small little display is pretty much useless to me. You can do anything with it. I'd rather have the functionality of the razor on the outside and then be able to flip it and unfold it to the big touch screen. I am glad to see that folding screen phones are getting better and more durable in their designs though. It's a great development for technology as a whole. I just don't think they're there yet.

I actually find the Z Flip's form factor more useful than the Fold's, because one of the things that bugs me about huge phones is trying to cram them into my pants pocket and then subsequently trying to sit down comfortably!

Oh yes, I'll definitely agree with you on that one. Passively folded phones in a pocket are extremely comfortable. However, if you're going to have a folding phone with folding glass screens, I figured I would want to go from like a 4-in screen to a nice 8-in screen tablet size for media consumption aka YouTube movies etc TV like sling.com If I go from the Galaxy z flips throw and a half inch between to a 6.2 inch screen, that's what My Pixel 3 XL has right now That's the only problem besides the price of course lol

Yes next time around maybe they'll be bigger 5G and a lot better specs.

This is my one real complaint about the Z Flip. It didn't stop me from per-ordering it, but I would have much preferred a full screen of information and interactivity when folded closed.

Agree, absolutely. I think the folding screen phones are extremely innovative! However, don't try to sell me the fact that a small small little screen on the outside of the z flip is going to be useful for taking selfies. Yes you can see the time and notifications on the screen but that's about it. I would much rather have the razors outside screen.

I think people are missing the point of the small Outside Screen.
It is just a Notification Center.
The Idea is that the Phone is not a center piece of attention.
I for one like It.
I don't find Myself glued to the Screen.
I like the durability of the Screen the Design gives It when closed.
If you need constant information and immediate access to it, This is not the Phone for you.
But what would be the Benefit of a functional Outside Screen?
It would kill the Battery
Add More Cost
Publically fail when the Media and Public try to put it into a Category that doesn't exist.
If you need all the functionality of a small form phone, there is always iPhone SE.
I am sticking with my Z Flip 5G.

I understand that part of the outside screen just being for notifications, and the inside folding screen being where you actually play with the phone. In my opinion though, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is a more usable idea. Granted it is a bigger, bulkier form factor, however, it's also much more usable and it's a phone, and a tablet, all in one. At least, that's just my take on the bleeding edge of tech. It's a great idea, and it is worth the money for the elite, or the technology reviewers, however, it's not IP68 water-proof. it's very delicate, etc, etc. Yeah, they are very very cool devices for some people though.

I just had the Fold 2 for a 30 Day Demo from Rogers. It is an unbelievable Device to be sure, but I found I was scared to take it outside because of the Cost. The Z Flip 5G may have some shortcomings, but it works better for Me. The Fold is everything it's cracked up to be.

well, I’m glad to hear that you have such a wonderful wonderful time with it! Good for you!!

I don’t see the screens holding up period especially with heavy users. Now if Samsung had at least a 2 year warrant on a screen then I would purchase one. I saw a gentleman with a almost 2 year old flip and the screen and the crease look horrible.

The majority of folks who daily use the Folds and Flips seem to run into screen, or screen protector issues, around the 8 month mark, give or take. So it seems for now, the best habit is to trade them in every year, and upgrade to the next model for a cheap price with the great trade in values Sammy offers. Or trade it towards something else ;)

From what I have been reading insurance is the best to get screens replaced because Samsung always blames the owner under warranty. I firmly believe in a lemon law for electronics.

When my f4 needed to go in for servicing I was told by the technician at the Samsung experience store that the Samsung extended warranty is actually better don't get the carrier one. Not sure if it's true or not but I was told that the Samsung warranty provides better and much more thorough care for devices.

I actually went back to the flip four with the smaller screen because with the largest screen on the outside I kept on turning the device on hence the fact lowering battery life but the cover me app once you install it really gives more functionality to that smaller screen on the z flip 4.
