My three gripes on the X since moving from a BB Storm

So far so good with the phone...LOVE the speed and the overwhelming amount of things one can do on the Android environment...I actually don't know where to start haha.

Anyways the three things that have been bugging in the last few days I've been using this device.

First and foremost is the email reader. I've got a gmail account which I created a few days before getting the phone so I could transfer the contacts and calendar from my old Storm. I also have 3 other emails addresses which I use on a day to day basis...2 Live accounts and 1 Comcast.

1. Now on the two BB's I had in the past it gave me the option to either delete on handheld or to delete on both handheld and in mailbox. I set up the accounts on the X and it receives the emails but when I delete it doesn't delete it from the mailbox nor is there an option in the settings part on the phone. Also when I read messages it doesn't show up as read in the mailbox. Is there an option some where on the phone that I'm missing. A coworker of mine has the Incredible and his email reader has that option and does the read/delete function I'm looking for. Also a friend with a regular Droid says when he deletes from the phone its deleted in the mailbox.

2. The next thing that bugs me is gmail. Why does it thread email messages? How does one go about turning that threading option off? If I can get this to turn off I'll migrate my saved emails and folders from my Live accounts and shut those down completely.

2.a. Talking about migrating emails...has anyone used the tool within gmail to migrate saved emails and folders from hotmail/live/yahoo accounts into gmail? How did it work for you?

3. Does the facebook app lack notifications? I know the X has the social networking app which will combine twitter and facebook (and actually downloads more contact info to my contacts which I think is cool) but it lacks on local app and redirects you to the site when you want to view more. So I download the facebook app from the market and its no better on the notifications (but gives me a local app like my old BB's did).

Thanks in advance for any help possible.

1. Droidmail will be getting this feature in the near future, and for this and other reasons I strongly recommend it to BB expats, it's vastly superior to the stock email client.

2.a. I did this for my yahoo-based website account, which had also served as the pop3 host of my previous administration job, and gmail migrated over all 4200 or so emails in a bit over 48 hours without a hitch.

2. I know that gmail is supposed to (or maybe already has?) get the option to turn off threaded emails, but I haven't yet been annoyed enough to try and do it myself, although I suspect that point is coming.

Only thing I can help you with is the Facebook problem.

Download Bloo from the market. It does notifications and doesn't really get in the way. I have both FB apps on my phone and it worked well for me.

For the Non deleting E-mails I urge you to report this to Motorola and Verizon. I have the same issue when I setup my IMAP accounts.

IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED ASAP; YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO DELETE MAILS ON THE HANDSET.

Please report to Verizon and Motorola.

Google Droid X IMAP not deleting e-mails for others with the issue.

The threaded emails are cool to me, but if you don't like it then I can see how you would want an option to change it. As for Facebook, its the one thing that BlackBerry devices do better. The notification system for Android's Facebook is seriously lacking.

1) Wouldn't this be a Google issue...not Moto or VZW?

2) Use K9 Mail...problems solved.

But if you download a new email client and the android Facebook app can you delete these stock Moto apps? I read they can conflict with each other. I am new to android and the X is my first android phone.

You cannot delete the stock apps but you can just not use them. I have experienced no conflicts with K9 or Fbook for Android thus far... just turn "gmail syncing" off in "my accounts" and you should be good to go,

Not that I found - apparently on other Android phones (Nexus 1, Incredible, etc) you are able to delete IMAP e-mails from the server. It's Motorola's implementation that is lacking.

I have K9 Mail and it's ugly, not that intuitive, and the stock e-mail client handles things better (fonts, bold/italics, etc). The stock e-mail client would be perfect if it handled IMAP deletions.

I agree this email issue that I WAS experiencing is a Motorola stock email issue. I've since migrated over to gmail and happy with the change. Now just need Google to give the option to allows us to choose threaded or not threaded messages.

And the K9 mail...I installed it and connected it to my Live accounts. I'll agree not intuitive. I was actually confused for a bit with all the options and the wording that was chosen for some of the option so I gave up and uninstalled it.

out of the box my droid x was marking messages as read in all my separate mailboxes, and i just checked this. I created a gmail account just before getting this because I thought I would have to, but the stock e-mail is working great with my yahoo and corporate sync accounts, so I am not really using the gmail. I am able to transfer messages to folders, something I was not able to do on the storm (or maybe I just didn't figure it out).

My main question is why would you (or anyone) need to delete e-mails, especially in yahoo or gmail accounts? I haven't deleted an e-mail for years and while my inbox is 30,000 strong, i have no problems navigating it. You never know which e-mail you might need to refer to in the future. Just some food for thought.

I delete because I hate clutter and I only delete messages that have no importance. Now I do keep ones for past orders, bills paid and such and I file them in folders. That is why I liked when the BB read the message on the server as well as deleting them when checked on the phone. I would go almost a week or more without logging in to my email on a computer because I had access on my phone. Just sucks that the email client on the X doesn't do those features.

I've since canceled my Live accounts (since migrating to gmail) and I just tested with my home Cox account and it to doesn't show read or deleted on the server either...not a big deal as I don't use that email for anything other than logging in to Cox to pay bills.

i know with my symbian devices, i set up gmail with IMAP and when i clicked delete it asked "phone only" or "phone and server", so i think its a standard part of the way IMAP works and it seems to be missing on the droid X.

i dont understand about threaded messages though. that's gmail's entire gimmick. so wouldnt it be better to use a different service without threaded messages?

i also dont understand why you dont just use the gmail app. i have a nexus one, not the droid x, but i use the stock gmail app and you dont even need to worry about IMAP or anything with deleting messages since the gmail app is well integrated. does the droid x not have the standard gmail app?

My only gripe is the low ringer volume. Anyone got some solutions or good program to make your own louder ringtones or something?
I have no problems with email. When i delete on my x it deletes out of my aol inbox or after i read marks them read.
