Yes yes, this is an android centeral not WP centeral I know, but what I have to say aimed at Android users and their thoughts, not WP users, and also might offend WP users so I avoid the flame.

Now this title might seem offensive but that's not my meaning.
I see WP as a great simple device for people who want to keep things simple.

On an android perspective, WP doesn't seem so much a smartphone as it claims to be, it's a very closed dumb phone with simplistic dead dumb view.

Which is.... Easy to navigate, easy to operate and easy on the eyes.
WP is a great dumb phone, awesome for simplistic organizing business issues and life aspects.

It doesn't require you to learn how to operate it to tge max, and it doesn't shove all these notifications in your face in a manner that requiers you to look on them immediately or banish them completely. It just shows you real time notifications on the tiles themselves and doesn't nag you with a led light or another row in the notification bar. It doesn't show a red dot on the tile with a number suggesting there's something new in this app and just nag you to open it.
The living tiles does an amazing job in disconnecting you from the thighs of the digital world as they are and let you chose when to browse what you want to browse whenever you'd like to, instead of nagging notifications.

All in all WP in my opinion could have been a greater and better iOS, much better then apple. It even feels like something Steve Jobs would have done instead of this horrific iOS 6 and 7.

The only problem lies with WP is that it came to late and got less consumers on it, and less apps and accessories.

What are your thoughts?

I think WP is making progress and gaining in popularity. It did come a bit too late, so they are playing catch up to Android and iOS. But that doesn't make it a bad OS.

Thank you for your opinion :).

WP's issue isn't functionality... it's timing. They were too late to the game and suffer for it. To get traction, they needed OEM and development support, neither of which they have. The mobile market is cutthroat, a phone now needs to reach out and grab someone by the short 'n curlies to get sold. As good as WP may or may not be, when people walk into a mobile store, it's usually stuffed off in a corner while the buyer gets festooned with marketing material from the Android big guns and Apple. So its a self-fulfilling prophesy... OEMs don't make a ton of WP phones because no one buys them and no one buys them because OEMs don't make a ton.

Actually I didn't meant my opinion to sound bad, it is a great os and I think it should earn the status that the iOS just not its price. I think it's really great for the masses of people who use their phone only as a communication and media device. I don't see it needing any high specs and it could stand out as the perfect low-mid range phone OS. Using a WP actually felt like using a phone after years of iPhone and now android.
Android alone feels to me like my 2008 high end gaming computer I had(compared to One m8). Low end Android devices just don't cut it, and iPhone will never be cheap or as easy to use as WP.

Edit: additional thoughts*
On that cheap, functional and easy to use aspect along side WP actual failure (2% of the shares is a faliure on Microsoft magnitude) I think WP should get a spot on the future of Project Ara, I do believe Microsoft can add magnificent features to what Ara will become.
Also, if it will join Ara not only it may strengthen WP apps and popularity it also gives us the option to cbose which OS to have on the future modular phone. (which is awesome because in my opinion modularity should give us freedom of software along freedom of hardware. +side note: I don't think apple will join in the modular phone because of their pride- can act on Microsoft as well).

This is one thing i dont like about windows phone is that "resuming" application thing when you're moving from one application to another It's a wasted 2 - 4 seconds everytime i'm changing app (it's not instant like android).. That's why i sold my lumia.. I think i'll be back when microsoft can fix it.

I knew someone would get their drawers in a bunch when I saw the title.

People love taking bits and pieces of a post and turn what was said into something entirely different.

I agree with the op sentiments but knew full well that the politically correct individuals would have a field day with calling WP "dumb" regardless of anything else that was said.

I will go one step further... I believe that Microsoft is down right stupid in many regards. Yup.. Stupid.. That means it won't change, because Microsoft won't change certain ways things are being done. It doesn't matter if the majority of the world prefers Android over WP.. They are so focused on their bottom line, they have to hamstring a really great os to promote their other software over everything else even on other platforms before their own.
That is what their leadership wants , then their core users complain because the rest of the world doesn't agree with them and they remain a minor player in the market. That's a real shame too, because it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see what really needs to change for them to capture the market that they covet.

To me WP isn't a dumb smartphone it is a great device hobbled by a bunch of egotistical morons who can't face the shortcomings of their own failures, who don't understand what the majority of people really want, and has no idea of how to actually market a smartphone to a totally different market that it is today. People are a lot smarter about their mobile phones today than they were just a few years ago.

Opinions are opinions and it doesn't matter if someone else disagrees or takes offence to them. Until Microsoft's leadership pulls their heads out of the sand and actually realizes their vision isn't what the majority of the people who are buying smartphones want, they are doomed to failure to really make serious gains in the smartphone market and will seem to be labeled as a dumb phone to choose.

Op... You were smart posting this here instead of WPC because they would eat you alive over there... The majority of people there are so pc when it comes to saying anything remotely against WP even when giving credit for all the good things in it.

I am not surprised in the slightest that there would be support given to OP's ridiculous post from some individuals, as a small percentage of posters are more interested in fostering forum wars rather than intelligently discussing opposing viewpoints on ecosystems and devices.

The problem with this is people are allowed to state opinions, that means there will be different viewpoints on everything.

No one can dictate how another person should feel.

FWIW...While I said I agree with the op's sentiments, that doesn't mean I agree totally with everything that was said.

Being able to give a opinion doesn't mean fostering a forum war, and no one has a right to attack those who feel differently.

Calling people names, saying they are trolling, and taking threads off topic are a quick way to rack up points. This is the only "remain" civil warning. Thread has been cleaned and OP edited. Let's keep it about the OS : )

No problem... Thanks

Being an Android user now, WP does start to appear more appealing.

Main drawback is that they have way less apps, but otherwise it seems quite a solid system. Still having some doubts about the tiles though, but guess I'd get used to it. Main advantage is that (currently) it is easier to protect your privacy in a WP. Seems like a nice thing to have...
