My voicemail isnt notifying me

Ive been experiencing problems with my voicemail. My galaxy sky does not let me know when i have one. Ive seen that this is a frequent problem with other android users on this page. Could it be a malfunction in these phones? Ive already tried the defined solution and it doesnt work

What carrier do you have? Are you using a phone from your carrier or an unlocked phone purchased elsewhere?

Have you contacted your carrier and asked them?
