My wife broke my tablet should I get a Nexus 7?

I just bought mine this past Friday October 5th (in Canada) and I got the $25 credit. When did this expire?

Supposedly it expired on September 25th or therabouts here in the US. They obviously sent the memo to the Canadian division via a combination of the US post office and Canadian Post. :)

It expired worldwide on September 30th. I think you got lucky. :P A LOT of people are still getting it though so...buy it now and enjoy your credit, I'd say. Google could stop it at any time without warning (if they do and you still have money, it'll be refunded to you if you call and ask).

get the 16gb model (or 32gb if it exists when you buy it). You may or may not need it, but you definitely can't add it on later.
IDK. It sounds easier than replacing a battery in the iPhone.:D :D

It may be better now, but considering how much Google was charging for shipping on pre-orders, my 16GB was only $25 more than Google was charging for the 8GB delivered.

I've had/have the iPad1 and "New". Love them for the web and things like Zite and FlipBoard. The Nexus7 is far better for watching media... the screen is so close to you anyway, I don't see much difference, and the weight/bulk in your hand is much more manageable. The sound is great, too.
Since OTG is so easy and cheap to set up [see the Threads on here], I wouldn't hesitate to go grab a 16g unit. The only thing they are likely to introduce mid-cycle is a 32g unit anyway. The money you save can go for a bigger one if you miss the form factor. The Nexus ought to be pretty easy to CraigsList.

Thanks everyone for the great feedback. My wife and I especially liked this response:
If she broke it, she should buy you a replacement out of her shoe budget. :D
. Too bad her shoe budget is only about $40/year.

The biggest bummer is that I have a business trip next week and I might actually have to use an analog device (aka, a book) rather that watching a video on the flight.

In the end I think what I will do is drop by the local Staples to try out the Nexus 7 to see if I like the 7" form factor. However, since it is so close to the holidays I figure I might as well wait and see what new devices such as a Nexus 10 & Nexus 7 32gb and/or holiday sales might bring before making a final decision. I'm not interested in paying Verizon a monthly fee so I will be going wi-fi only. I use my tablet for playing a few games, watching netflix, revision3 and photoshop user tv podcast so I can live without it for a few weeks. Either way, I'll be sure to have a new device before Dec 25.

FWIW, I checked Craisglist and Nexus 7 are currently being offered at retail prices.

If I were you, I'd test out a 7" device in store first, before you leap to buy anything. depends on what you used the 10" tab for, but you might find a 7" screen too small. if you mostly used it for things like e-book reading, playing apps, watching netflix, etc, I think you'll actually prefer the 7" screen, although web browsing might be slightly more tedious. if you view/write/edit a lot of docs and spreadsheets, you might want a larger device.

like someone else said, there are a crap-ton of tablets coming out this fall, so you might find something better suited to your lifestyle. then again, the N7 is so decently priced that you might as well go for it--like I said, a 7" device just feels better in your hands.

If she broke it, she should buy you a replacement out of her shoe budget. :D

because all ladies watch Toddlers and Tiaras and blow their earnings on $1000 shoes.

Yes, buy a Nexus 7!

Wait until after 10/24 and see if the rumors come true. :)

I wouldn't do Black Friday deals unless you feel that their completely worth it. Often stores only have less than 3 "deals" per store. I'm not getting up at 4 AM to go shopping on Black Friday! :)

Me neither! However, a lot of stores have online deals on Black Friday and/or Cyber Monday. Also, it's not unusual to see a modest permanent price drop on some electronics following Black Friday. Personally, at this point in the year, I wouldn't buy any consumer electronics unless I had an immediate need. Chances are good I can save a few bob if I wait a bit. YMMV.

I had the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and was convinced I would never want a 7-inch screen (in fact I wanted the tablet screen to get bigger). I was wrong. I got a Nexus 7 as a gift and was amazed at how perfect the compact size is. I use it twice as much as I did the Tab. The screen is actually a 720p screen, so it's sharper than the Tab and it's much more convenient to hold it while using/reading. I bring it everywhere now. Very surprisingly pleased.

My wife dropped my Galaxy Tab 10.1 on the floor last night and it no longer works :'(. I've been looking at the Nexus 7 for a while now but wondering if the smaller screen will be better than a 10" screen. Also wondering if maybe I should wait a few weeks to see what the holiday batch of tablets will be.

Thoughts?

Actually, contrary to many of these posts, I would suggest not buying any 7 , 8.9, or 10 in tablet without first spending as much time playing with it as possible. I have owned both 7 in and 10 in tablets and sold the 7 in tablet because I have reasonably large hands and found maneuvering around a smaller screen more troublesome at times. No one on this site can give you genuine feedback with respect to whether a small tablet would be a good fit for you. You are the only one who can answer that question.

I wouldn't buy a Nexus 7 until the new models are announced, probably by the end of the month. 7" vs 10" is entirely subjective. I find 10" screens better for web browsing, content creation and videos, but I prefer the smaller screen for most other activities. Try a 7" tab before you buy.

I agree. It depends. I have an iPad and a Nexus 7. I don't even think about using the iPad. The Nexus 7 beats it hands down. It's a good idea to try one first since you have only owned a 10 inch tablet. It is a good idea to wait on the new nexus models that are supposed to be arriving. From my current experience I'm sure that you will be happy with a Nexus 7.

I agree with both of you. I would wait it out a few weeks at least until they announce the new tablets if you can. Since you are going on a business trip and may need a tablet, you may not have the luxury of waiting. If you absolutely need one, I would say get the 16g one to use on the trip. I don't think you can go wrong with it.

I am holding off until they make the announcement (or not) for a 32g Nexus 7 tablet. If they don't make an announcement by black Friday, then I will pick up a 16g one.

Good luck with your decision.

Curious how do you use the Nexus differently than iPad? I don't find the iPad that useful over my EVO LTE, so what would the Nexus do for ke instead? I find that what I don't like about the iPad is that things are either much easier and faster to do on my phone, or they require my laptop.

Maybe you should upgrade your wife first? Just kidding.....

Well, yes a N7 would be a perfect upgrade to your galaxy tab. Not that the GTab is bad, I actually bought my wife a GTab 7 student edition at Costco (came with keyboard) and SD card slot. She's a non techie and wouldn't have any idea how to "manage" a Nexus 7.

If you're not in a rush, you might wait a month to see if the 32GB Nexus 7 comes out.
