My Z3C Has Arrived - First Impressions (share yours as well)

Hoping someone can answer the question above on overheating, but also I'm wondering where most of you are buying your Z3C? Looks like a few UK sources. Something about that seems more legit than the Ebay sellers, but maybe not. Where is the best price? I can't seem to get anything to load on the Sony site. When I hit "Buy Now" a page comes up with "Technical Error". Can anyone confirm the US price when it becomes available?

Yeah that seems to happen periodically. It's $529.99 or 10% off that if you have a .edu email. Actually do a chat with Sony USA and ask for a discount. They offered me 5% in chat without even asking.

eshop.sonymobile.com gives the technical error for the Z3C.
But store.sony.com/unlocked-phones/cat-27-catid-All-Unlocked-Phones shows the Z3C as available for preorder. (at one time backorder, but it hasn't been released in the US yet. )

If you want to register for a student account to save 10%, when it asks you about your school, just put in the state and nothing else, and then scroll down the list to find your school. It's a crappy search tool, and if you don't enter everything exactly the same as they have in their database, nothing shows up.

Any of you who have T-Mobile service, is there a way to get wifi calling on the compact? If so, does it work well?
Also, is there a feature that allows you to use the screen with gloves? I read somewhere you could, but haven't found any sort of official word to back that up.

I thought I read somewhere that you can max out the screen sensitivity and it might work with gloves? Can't confirm that though as I don't have my Z3C yet.

Any issues with overheating on this phone? I had a z2for a few weeks and loves it but couldn’t deal with the phone overheating so flipped it..

I've had none. I haven't tried filming anything in 4K though and Sony warns that filming in 4K WILL heat up the device which will shut down for the phone's safety. Apart from that, nothing.

Got my Z3C about a week and a half ago and I was fully planning on returning it until I took it to a wedding last night and got a TON of great shots with it. Action, low light, sunset, and a few decent videos...all were better than any other phone I've ever used (and I've had them all). I always like to have a small phone around for going to the gym and for events and places where I don't want to carry my OnePlus One (or Nexus 6 when it comes out).

It's a good thing I decided to keep the Z3C through the weekend as it has just earned it's right to stay on my desk and in my pocket. I also tried the Galaxy Alpha...and while it has the same specs essentially but touchwiz, as usual, bogs it down. Stutters and missed frames all the time...just couldn't deal with that even tho I preferred the the look and build quality of the Samsung.

And since people had issues in the beginning of the thread...I have At&t and it's been perfectly fine grabbing an LTE signal. No issues whatsoever.

I just received my compact in the mail today and I was actually shocked by how impressed I was by how it looked in person. It is smaller than what I expected (coming from a Note 3) and that is a GOOD thing; yet it isn't obnoxiously small. So far I am in awe of how much I Iike this device in just a few hours of playing with it. The UI is really smooth and I'm guessing it's because the skin isn't as heavy as touch wiz. I normally immediately throw on Nova Launcher onto whatever Android device I get, but this is the first time I didn't feel the need to. I must say though...and forgive me if I offend anyone but it kind of looks like what an iPhone would have been if it were an Android. Just my opinion, don't kill me lol. But regardless the hardware is beautiful and despite the plastic trim it feels and looks premium to me (I got the white). Hopefully my infatuation lasts for the next year or so...Android L should help that :-)

Edit: Wow so I just noticed I could change themes...I'm using this Android L type of theme (changed soft keys and dialer to whats on Lollipop) that I really like. Looks like this phone has a few surprises for me.

Any reason you chose the white phone? I'm debating between the orange and the white color. I've had too many black phones so I'm trying to avoid black.

I've read the orange phone can look "toyish" and the white one makes it look like an apple device.

I'm also tired of black & not really feeling the red/orange. Beating myself up trying to decide between white & green.

I debated colors too but in the end went with white. Figured I would have a case on it anyway so white was the only one that would really show anything other than black (i.e. on the front).

Cool, I may go with white. What case are you using? Case mate is the only higher end cases I found. I like to find good cases that will protect it from bumps and drops.

I'm also considering the rhinoshield for front and back coverage to prevent the screen from breaking. I've read a few reviews of cracking from a small fall, android central cracked the z3c.

For those looking here is a cheap dock, DK36 Magnetic Charging Dock Cradle Stand Charger for Sony Xperia Z2 L50W New | eBay
With a thin TPU case I took off the the adapter piece and simply placed a strip of velcro(the non scratchy part) to the back part of the dock for the phone to rest on, very easy to place it on and instantly connects. Once my Cruzerlite case comes I will probably file away some plastic on one of the adapter pieces they give you for a perfect fit or might just leave it the way it is since it works perfectly.

I have this Tempered glass screen protector, it does have a notch cutout for the light sensor and is cut for a case but does cover the entire screen width and into the black bezel area. So far excellent feel and finger print rejection is great. I went with the white because like you, I got tired of black and wanted something different. The colorful ones would look to "kiddie" when I am at work or attending meetings with clients. The white looks really sleek, nice and not as obnoxious in a office setting as say an orange.

While I'm not "tired" of black, I too was checking out the orange one. I've looked around at a lot of sites, and the ones that post actual pictures of the z3c in orange (not renders) make it look more red than anything. If that's the case, I'm definitely getting 'orange'.

Edit: I can't post links because I haven't posted enough yet, but check out fonearena.com they have some hands on pics of the xperia compact, and a video.

I have black but I think I'd go white if I did it again. White, like said will still be seen with a case unlike all the rest. Plus with the small bezels, it's not so "in your face " like iphone. I agree that it looks more grown up as well.

For those of you who have the phone - I've heard reports of glass (back or front) cracking under normal usage. Did your units also developed cracks or they are still perfect? Also, I've heard reports of display sensitivity issues such as too high "stock" sensitivity causing accidental activation of apps even with phone in the pocket/bag or momentary screen touches registering as "swipes". Have you experienced any of these and had to disable some options (like "double tap to wake" or "glove mode") to decrease the sensitivity?

I am seriously thinking about buying this phone but reading about such issues really discourages me from doing this :-\

Hey all, I just received mine from Amazon today. Haven't opened the box yet, because I'm concerned that it has been tampered or is used. Can those of you that have received one report what kind of seal or stickers there were on the box before opening. I'm assuming something was there to "break the seal" before opening. Thanks so much for your help!

Who was the seller? Hopefully someone that has one can chime in. On other Sony products I have had there has definitely been an unbroken seal.

Where did you get the lolipop theme?
