MyMaps Issue

I downloaded MyMaps a couple days ago and I'm having a problem with it.

It sits there loading my existing google maps either forever or sometimes it gets done (I think) but takes hours.

Has anyone seen this? I thought maybe the app got zapped so I deleted it and reinstalled it, but it does the same thing.

I am planning a bicycle trip to NJ->Key West this summer and wanted to access my google maps on the road for this, but at this point MyMaps seems useless.

What does this app MyMaps do that the standard maps app doesn't do? You can see your google maps by clicking on layers, then click the more layers button and then "My Maps".
