N4 Wireless charger disaster

I've had my Orb for a week; until two days ago it was fine, and then my naked phone began sliding off at night. It woke me up the first time with the low battery sound. I run Gentle Alarm as my clock at night, and I had to turn it off in order to stop the low-battery/now your phone is charging sound. The charge was too low to compete with the clock app. I read what I could for solutions, and yesterday cleaned the Orb with sticky packing tape. It didn't help. I ended up propping the base of the Orb in the front with a cloth to reduce the angle. My phone stayed put last night but that's not how I want to be using the Orb. I've read that a back screen protector helps. Maybe I need to also focus on cleaning the phone's back as well as the Orb. It's a pain. At least the TYLT charger I pre-ordered won't have that problem, but I would like the Orb to work, too.

That's exactly what happened to mine before I sent it back. Been waiting a week for a replacement now.

This sounds like too much work just to charge. I love my lg wpc -700 charging MAT. No fuss, just kay it down and charge it

I am having the same problem with the Nexus 4 wireless charger.. after about 5 minutes, the phone will slide off the orb... or will just stop charging. I've cleaned the orb and the back of the phone, but it still happens ... what a piece of poo this is. I will be obtaining an RMA and getting this back to Google ASAP.

How long do we have to RMA? Mine didn't bother me at first, but even when I try putting things under the edge to keep it from slipping or leaning the orb back a little, it still slips.

It's absolutely inexcusable, and I don't see how this slipped past the testing phase- if there even was one.

EDIT: Called customer service, and was told that they don't offer warranty or replacements for the wireless charging orbs, but they DO for the wall charger that comes with the phone. How ed up is that? I paid $60 for this charger that is supposed to hold my phone in place and charge it, and it's failing to do that. She said that someone will be reviewing my case and will be getting with me on this soon. If they deny me the replacement I am going to just ask to return it and get my money back.

I am blown away by how ty of a situation this all is. Especially how little coverage this is getting on electronics/gadgets/mobile blogs and news sites.

Whoever you spoke to is flat-out wrong. I've had to speak to 4 different reps now, and they all understood the RMA process for the Orb. If you look at the item listing in your Google Play account it says support is through Google and gives you a phone number to call. The Orb itself comes with a booklet describing the warranty coverage. Try calling back and getting someone else.

This is what stops me from ordering the Google orb. I know more people don't have problems then do, but I don't want to risk mine slipping off and waking up to a shattered phone on the floor. My question is why they decided to have the phone placed at a angle? What's wrong with either laying flat or having something on the bottom to make sure the phone will not slide off? And whoever you spoke to and said they don't offer a warranty on the orb is feeding you a line, keep calling untill you talk to someone that cares and will help you out.

Wireless charging seems to be pretty pointless and a waste of money, it still uses a wire, is less efficient, and you can't use your phone while it's charging... unless you count speaker mode. I can find infinitely better ways to spend $60.

It's more about style and organized actually. I don't need to plug in my charger to the wall every time. All I need to do it just to put on it. Again, you are correct. it still have a wire connect to the orb. For me it's more about style and look. and I bet it will take you 6 seconds to plug your micro-usb to your phone? sometimes, your micro-usb is not plug in the right way, so you gotta reverse it? For the orb, we just put on it. That's all.

I've had my orb about a week. When I pull the phone up while it is charging, the orb hangs on for a bit. I usually use two hands to separate them.

... AND my phone slides off after a few minutes. I tend to shake my leg while sitting at my desk, so I suspected this might be the issue. I took the orb home and set it on the entertainment center (mostly because that's where the free outlet was. It slid off there, too.

... AND I decided to set the phone on the orb to slow the battery drain during heavy social media use (I was doing mass friending/unfriending - lots of server calls). I turned away from the phone to watch my lady play Skyrim and after a few minutes the phone leapt off the charger and the snack table straight on to the carpet. The phone wasn't hurt, but this is disturbing behavior.

I set the front edge of the orb on a thin booklet which raised it maybe 2.5? and the behavior stopped. It sat there and happily charged all night. I'm content to find a little black cup or something similar to set the orb into so I can adjust the tilt, but that seems silly to me. I noticed this morning there is a wedge shaped round foot on the bottom which keeps it from sliding across the table top. The thin edge is in front. I suspect if that was turned around the orb would work flawlessly. I wonder if mine is on backward?

I bought the orb, mainly due to the fact I hate wires and the clutter they create. $60 for a charging unit is a bit steep, but I like the no-wire aspect. I've had horrible luck with micro-usb connectors failing on me (connections becoming loose, phone not charging properly), so I took the plunge with the orb. So far, so good. No slippage (no cover of any kind on the back).

Clean the orb "face" with a pet hair roller (sticky stuff) a few times a month, and compressed air. Keep the phone's back clean too. No more slipping. ;)

I have the same problem. I just got the Nexus 4 and the charger on Wednesday. I initally charged the phone off of my PC at work and now am still trying to rechage it for the first time with the wireless charger. The phone keeps sliding down the front of the orb until it makes contact with the table it's on then stops charging. I've been at it since last night and am only up to 58% as of right now!

Get a sticky pet hair roller like I suggested. It will clean lint off the charger, and may improve the "stickiness" of the orb. Also ensure your phone is clean of oil, dust. Finally, press the phone onto the org.

Gotta make a video tutorial of this....

Already tried cleaning it and the phone and pressing the phone against the orb. Keep in mind that both are less than 2 days old and it you have to clean both before every use then the charger is a useless toy.

I've been using the orb for three days now. Haven't cleaned the orb or my phone and has been fine. I have not seen it slip at all. I do have the Ringke Fusion case, the one with the clear back, so that may be why. The glass back might not grip it right with oil, and dirt on them.

Did I say clean before every use? Nope I sure didn't. I clean mine once or twice a month.

"Useless toy" in a pig's eye.....

I'm late to this thread... so please excuse me if I'm beating a dead horse here.
I had the slipping issue and called the Play Store CS. They shipped me out a replacement unit immediately. Didn't even ask any questions, like they knew it was an issue. My new unit is awesome, charges faster and zero slipping.

Things I read to try before calling for a replacement:

1) clean it.
2) make sure you are using the power adapter and cable that shipped with the orb.
3) plug the orb directly into a wall outlet (as opposed to an extension cord or power strip)

Cheers
