AC Question

I have an Outlook account where I deal with emails and agendas on my calendar. I recently got a Samsung S8 and wanted the agendas on my outlook calendar to sync with the native calendar app that comes installed on the device. However, despite telling it to sync automatically and performing whatever troubleshooting methods I came across online, nothing worked. I dont know if I discovered something new here or what but any help in syncing my calendar from Outlook/Exchange ActiveSync to the Calendar app would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. Syncing with exchange server is not as simple as normal accounts. Have you setup your exchange account on the phone with, I assume, your workplace credentials? There is a lot of information on the web also. I'll ask the forum Mods to move your post into the S8 forum where you should get more information.

Ive got my work exchange in the calendar so it will work, just need to figure out whats missing.

Did you set the time frame for calendar events when adding your exchange account? It defaults at 2 weeks so you have to specify the timeline. I set mine to all.

Did you select the calendar to be synced when adding the account? Its usually autoselected and the only item unchecked is messages (I made the mistake of checking that on an older phone once and got some really funny looks when I got to work).

In the calendar, have you selected the 3 dots and clicked "manage calendars"? Does the exchange calendar show in there?

Yup, i have done all of that. I made sure all events and emails are retrieved and that they are done so automatically. I made sure calendars, tasks, contacts, etc were all synced. The samsung email app retrieves emails but the calendar app wont retrieve calendars.

Ok, I had an issue in Google Calendar a while back where events wouldnt populate. Eventually I added an event using the exchange account then verified it showed up on my pc. Once I did that all events transferred to the phone.

Try adding an event on the phone and see if it appears elsewhere.

Not working. On further review it seems it wont even sync with reminders i create on my s3 watch but that is an issue for a different time.

I assume youve gone into settings>accounts> and toggled the option for calendar right?

If you have I would add the account to another calendar like Google Calendar (add exchange to gmail) and see if it syncs there. If it does Id remove the account from samsung and re-add it.

The default Calendar App is not listed under accounts. Only Microsoft Exchange and Outlook. And yes, it does sync with gmail (even though I dont use Google Calendar) and it even synced on my old S5 Phone. I tried removing the account and adding it again to no avail. Seems like a Calendar App issue on the S8 but I may be getting ahead of myself.

Ok so in the Exchange section of accounts, have you toggled the calendar off and on? The outlook app by microsoft wont sync to the samsung calendar app so if thats what you're using for exchange it wont happen. Outlook uses its own calendar inside the app and the only thing you can sync is contacts.

So the calendar under outlook wont sync with the Samsung Calendar? Not questioning your judgment but I am just wondering why it worked with my s5 but not the s8.

Ive tried the Microsoft Outlook app a bunch of times and theres no calendar sync option so I had to add the exchange account to Samsungs email app then toggle the email and contacts off so only the calendar syncs.

The outlook app used to sync the calendar but they removed that a while back. Give me a fe to re add it on my phone and Ill verify it.

Yeah I did a quick check and it seems on the S5 it allowed you to add an outlook account but on s8 it only allows exchange. IMO that is pretty ridiculous and a classic case of fixing something that isn't broken.

Is you're exchange through outlook365? If so I do believe the Samsung exchange will accept Outlook 365 accounts.

I just verified, The Outlook app doesnt sync the calendar at all except in the app.

I use a private Exchange server so I cant test Outlook 365 but Im almost positive Samsung Email will add it.

EDIT: Are you trying to use a standard pop3 or imap account or an actual exchange account?

I think I found the solution. I use a standard outlook account and not actually exchange. However, there is this software called akruto sync that addresses and solves my exact problem by using your personal outlook email to create a "fake" exchange account that the s8 will recognize and sync with.

Ok lol. I was gonna say, it shouldnt be causing issues on an exchange account. Glad you resolved it though.
