native feature to block calls/text (kit kat)

Mr Number didnt work on my nexus 5, tried a few none seem to work except root call blocker but that drained my battery really fast.

Actually, yes, the Nexus 5 does have native call blocking...or rather, automatically sending calls to Voicemail.
If you combine this feature with blocking the number within Google Voice, you can completely block a number.
If you're interested, this is what I did. ......... Enjoy.

Same basic idea but easier implementation:

On the phone:
- Create a contact named Banned (could be anything else too like blocked)...
- Add all numbers you want to block to it.
- Check the "All calls to voicemail" check box in top right menu of the contact.

On Google voice page:
- Goto Inbox (viz the home page once you login to google.com/voice)
- Pick and call from contact "Banned". Click "more" and "Block caller"

In future whenever you want to block any new number, just add them to the contact "Banned".
Simplest way to add: Goto your recent call list / call history, click the photo like square on left of the number you want to ban, click the top rectangle in the contact page (with a small + sign), which will open your contacts, now select "Banned" to add this number to it.
If you're impatient like me, you can goto Settings->Accounts->Google->Account you use for GoogleVoice and force the sync (full or only contacts), to push the updates you made on your phone's contact list to Google Voice immediately.

You can use "Avast Mobile security and Antivirus" available in the play store for free. You should be able to block calls and texts using the app. Adding to this, it is a highly rated security app.!!

Hi, have you had any problems with Avast? I find it crashes if I try to add a number form Call History, although its fine with a contact.
Thanks

Comodo Mobile Security app does call blocking black listing etc really easily. It offers to block caller after each call, and the tool can block numbers from your call records and or contact list.

The most basic feature of a phone is to easily block SMS or phone number or both. My dumb phone did that with a touch of a button when unwanted text came in.
I have Nexus 5 with Android KitKat 4.4.2, and it is supposed to be "smart"? Open Source my azz Google/Android!! No app has worked so far. If this continues, most people are going to jump ship.
Not smart Google/Android, not smart at all.

Daniel and others; I have been using Call Filter in the marketplace.

Can't remember if I paid for it but if so only a few bucks. It has worked flawlessly on my nexus 5.

I don't even know the blocked numbers have called until I check the blocked call log.

This app works with telemarketing numbers, can block restricted numbers, and of course SMS.

It could look a wee bit nicer in the UI department but overall it is a much needed app.

I have an unrooted N5 for the record.

go to your contact list
select the contact you want to block then click on the mark which is beside star ,
again select option beside star ,
then select all calls to voicemail
if u dont have voicemail subscription then that call will be automatically rejected

And if the caller is a telemarketer - possibly not even a human being, and you just so happen to have voicemail...

Well I think you can use your imagination. Problem not solved.

Kit-Kat broke the text message blocking for all Apps, including Avast. They are working on writing their own code.

The latest version is free, but they warn that OS upgrade breaks it.
