Navigation App gone! I mean really gone!

I liked the blue arrow design of the app on my first screen better than the maps icon. It sure would have been nice if they let their users know the app was now part of the google maps program. I freaked out when I could not find the old navigation icon and started to seach everywhere on the play store to find it. I actually started to use the verizon navigation app because that blue icon was missing. If google is looking for feed back here it is. Change the maps icon to the old navigation blue triangle arrow icon because I never would have know it was now part of maps. I liked the turn by turn directions of the old navigation app and would have downloaded someone elses navigation program if the information was not listed on this site. So thank you whoever it was that said just try the maps app and that it is part of the old nav program. Props to you! If there is anyway to get this information to google please post it so they get this feedback. I am one of those stupid humans that do things because it is what I know. And I am not the only one that really liked that old icon and identified this program by that blue arrow.

If your going to boycott Google maps because of something so Minor ( use Google maps or heck just say it into Google now or Google search) then try waze. It's the only other alternative IMHO.

Thankyou so much for this! I just restored the original naviation and I am so happy.

The original android navigation just worked! It was fast and I loved the way it would remember previous destinations that I had navigated to.

In comparison, the new google navigation is next to useless for me. BTW I have a 2 month old Galaxy S4 so there is nothing wrong or unusual about my phone.

It's slooooow! It takes much longer to load that the old navigation, and uses more bandwidth. Several times it has failed to show a destination for me when I needed it.

It takes much more user input to set a destination, in the old app I was able to quickly punch in a destination at a stop light to find where I am going, literally with 2 clicks then typing or speaking the address. The new all takes significantly more input ( Run app, wait to load (3-10 seconds) Enter start location, Enter Destination (wait again to load) Hit navigation (Wait even longer 10-30 seconds) Sometimes crashes here.

The old app just worked.. the new app is buggy and hog with both processor, memory and bandwidth. A big NO from me.

What a shock for Monday! I click on my blue arrow Nav icon and Google Maps shows up. LOST EVERYTHING. No previous addresses, no three dimensional view of what is coming up, the GPS drops and won't re-establish connection, the directions don't update. It was a total disaster. I wish I had brought my Garmin. After two years of reliable and consistent working, we now revert back three years of development??? I uninstalled the updates and reverted to factory and it works. SAME ROUTE I now get directions, GPS did not drop.

Sometime I wonder if people should be allowed a driving licence.....

The update should not have affected gps. That would be more of a hardware or software issue on the device not necessarily with the app. Did you have certain places starred or saved on the previous update? if so, these should all still be there with the latest update as well.

This is from the Maps update that happened yesterday. Navigation is now built into Maps instead of being a separate icon, just launch Maps and set up a route and you'll see what I mean.

How can I get a direction to repeat? Sometimes I don't hear it right the first time.

I'm not sure that you can have a direction repeated. You may need to take a quick look at the device and see the route drawn out on the app. What I do is take a look at a map and get a general idea of what I need to do. This way the directions make sense when I'm using navigation and don't have to constantly look at the phone in route to my destination.

My blue Navigation symbol also disappeared when I rebooted my Droid RAZR. However, I just followed this procedure: SystemSettings...APPS..."Downloaded" or "All"(All is scrolled to the right)....touch - GOOGLE MAPS or "MAPS" (***this is the important app to get your blue triangle back**).....A menu board will appear that shows Storage, etc. Touch "DISABLE" or "Unistall" or "unistall Updates"....If asked, select "install factory version". This should remove the update that eliminated the blue triangle. See if you got it back by going to HOME..APPS.. Hopefully you got it!! By the way, if and when you reboot the phone again, the same thing is likely to happen.

did removing the updates bring back the blue navigation button/arrow?
does anyone know which devices this will be affecting? all Droids?

So maybe Google should occasionally ask users what they prefer. I don't want to make three clicks to bring up navigator. What were they thinking? Bring back the simple portal to navigation!

Maps and Navigation should never have been separate apps, it was a bad process flow from the beginning. Combining them into a single app is just common sense.

How can I tell my Android where I want to go now? I used to love being able to say an address or location and get directions. I did find the new way to get directions, but could not find if it is still possible to just say where I want to go and have the android find it.
