Navigation App missing after Google Maps Update

It sucks I tried using today...first time using it since the update! Its not accurate at all the older version is a million times better! I wish I could go back to the way it was!

Wow, Google really messed up with this one. Why on Earth would they have hidden the Navigator like that! I uninstalled the update, much better!

I am on T-mobile with Samsung Galaxy 3, and now my navigator app is gone, I can't find anything similar, and would really like it back, what happen?

I don't mean to come across as overly harsh but if folks would just take a few minutes to either a) explore the new Maps or b) read a few posts in this thread, the signal-to-noise ratio in this discussion would be vastly improved.

I honestly thought most of the people complaining about the "missing" Navigation app were trolling here but now it's looking more like a symptom of the instant-gratification, self-entitled mindset seen way too often these days.

Today's smartphone is a true miracle of modern technology. Approach it as such and take a few minutes to try to figure things out on your own. If you take into account all of a smartphone's capabilities, the learning curve of these things is really not that steep.

My problem with the navigation now is finding an alternate route while already mid-route.

...snip...

Another missing feature is the ability to insert waypoints into a Maps-generated route. While on vacation, I wanted to take a scenic detour between Point A and Point B but couldn't find a way to do this. The only work around was to contrive a route by using a bogus destination that took me through the scenic section then, after arriving near the bogus destination, set my intended destination.

Was it possible to set waypoints in the old version of Maps?
Years ago I used Streets and Trips on my netbook while working, and used way points every day.
Was disappointed when I started using Google Maps and couldn't find a way to do it..

I don't believe Google Maps on Android has ever had this capability. I sure couldn't find it in either the old or new versions. One of the reasons I still use my Garmin GPS for certain tasks. So while I guess you can call it a "missing feature", it has nothing to do with the change to the new maps app.

Thanks, I'd really be unhappy if I had missed that option. :)

My bad. I thought this was a feature that was previously available for some reason. I vaguely recall building a route for a long ride through an unfamiliar area using Maps.

I think I used the desktop version to create a map and accessed it on my phone via the "My Maps" feature, which I can't find with the new version. I don't have ready access to the old version of mobile Maps to see if this was another feature that was yanked.

That is a desktop feature.

Not being a developer I don't know how hard that would be to implement.

But it would be a great feature on the phone version.
Like mentioned above, my Garmin does it, and it has less resources than any of my phones.

Me to. One day my nav was there and i have automatic dwn load and today it was gone. I really enjoyed using it so been on line dwn loading new onesand cant find the blue arrow. Looms like ill be learning a new nav system. Whew !:-\

I think I've managed to read this whole thread over the past few days. I have uninstalled the Maps update about a dozen times now...pretty much every time I get in my vehicle. (Just moved to a new state/city and have no clue where anything is yet, so I use Nav ALL the time right now.) Anyway, the box to check/uncheck for Auto Updates is not there when I go to My Apps in the Play store. Any other solution to stop the auto-updating?

I don't really have a problem learning to use the new system, except that I can't. Every time I get to the point of clicking to navigate me, the app crashes. Usually right after Mrs. Google tells me the first part of the directions.

Motorola Droid 4, on a fresh factory restore. I'm at a loss as to what to do right now.
