Navigation App missing after Google Maps Update

This would be a show-stopper. I just tried to reproduce this by calling myself while a nav route was active. After hanging up, I went back to Nav with no problem.

I didn't try phone calls, but I did notice inconsistent behavior when hitting the home button during a nav session. Sometimes it would exit nav completely, and other times the nav would stay active. I only tried that a few times, so I don't know how often it happened.

Ok, I know I'm in the minority but I'm actually liking the update more than in the previous version. Of course I use Car Home Ultra which makes my GPS life easier as well...

So with the latest Maps update, does Car Home Ultra go directly into navigation? I don't have any problem with the update other than the easy-in, easy-out action going away. If Car Home could take care of that, it would be worth it.

Is there a way to set it so it will not update again? I have had to uninstall the map update 3 times now!

It does for me but I had a "Navigation" button set up before the Google Maps update. The other thing you can do is set up destinations that you go to as buttons on the screen. Then when you want to go there just press the button. I find CHU to be absolutely invaluable.

Let's be fair: this latest update should be called Google CRAP, and the user has every right to feel betrayed that Google would shove this rancid turd onto anyone's phone.

I just read you comment about what happened after your phone after it was updated and mine did the very same thing just the other day. I was wondering if you had gotten your fixed and if so if you could help me fix mine. I like using the arrow better then the google maps and I would love to have it back.

You need to uninstall the update.
You can do it on your phone, or on Google Play

It is indeed an outrage. All those wronged or betrayed by this update deserve reparations or, at the very least, a refund.

I try not to be a Luddite, but aaaarrrggghhhh! Why did they 'fix' things that weren't broke? Bring back "terrain view"!

I have grown used to using "navigate" not just for A to B navigation, but also to provide both up-to-date traffic *and* road info (the CD in my built-incar satnav was out of date when I got the last update). With terrain switched on and the map set to a wider view than the satnav it also provided me with options for alternative routes where I have an idea of the lie of the land.

I haven't been able to uninstall the update (Samsung Galaxy II) cos I can't find that option anywhere. My immediate problem is that "maps" times out and the screen switches off if I don't type in a destination and choose guide.

I would be willing to live with the disadvantages of the new version and hope that it will be improved till it's nearly as good as the old version, but in the meantime I'd like to find a way of stopping the screen from timing out.

Is there a fix other than messing with the basic phone settings?

Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way to enter Nav mode without entering a specific destination. It's one of the things I miss from the old versions. I forgot about the terrain layer too.

Another thing I miss from the old version was the ads you'd see when you search for something. I wish Google would bring those back...oh wait... Attract new customers with local ads on the Google Maps app - Inside AdWords

D'oh!

Open Google Play, find Google Maps, click on Uninstall. It will ask if you want to uninstall the updates.

Thanks. That was helpful. I love the Google Navigation, as it magnifies the street names as you approach the street, which is very useful . I will try it when i drive home and see if it is still the same.
The AT&T map is not very convenient..

Delete the map updates doesn't allow any routing. It look like it is working and then you get a message cannot download Google maps.

thank you guys for the advice re the missing navigation app on the samsung 3!

got lost today without it - panicking as to where it went - confused tillI read this thread.

I had updated google maps - and that must have been when the little blue arrow app disappeared - I have now tried as you suggested and it appears to work fine straight from the google maps icon you type in your destination in the top bar, it also stores info on each destination for future reference- it gives a warning to state that it is dangerous to use and drive at same time and that its not in 'real' time?? I will try it for real this weekend on my travels....

In the past it has been ten times better than my mates sat nav!!! :):)
