Navigation interrupted by incoming calls

I have a Pixel 7 Pro (Android 13) and it's great!

Only one problem:

I always use Google Assistant to initiate navigation in Maps and it works great and pops up in full screen on the phone, ready to go! But when an incoming call occurs and I answer, it turns away from Maps and on to full screen dialer/caller app. This is both dangerous and annoying because you then have to use your hands to swap back to Maps.

I am not sure if the problem lies in Maps, Assistant, Android, Dialer app or something else?

Have anyone got a solution for this? I would be so grateful.

Is the "Picture in Picture" option on Maps enabled? If not, all you're getting from a minimized Maps app is notifications.

Thank you so much. It worked. If anyone wonders how to change this setting:


Enable PiP Apps on Android
Open Settings.
Tap Apps or Apps & notifications.
Tap Special app access. On older versions of Android, tap Advanced > Special app access.
Tap Picture-in-picture.
Choose an app from the list.
Tap the Allow picture-in-picture toggle to turn on PiP.
