I was using Google maps for navigation with the phone on my dash and it got to 128°F pretty quickly while using a qualcomm quick charge 2.0 charger. The phone also ran really slow and was shutting down cores due to thermal overload.

I tried to use my vent mount with the AC blowing and it ran pretty cool.

Strange that it would shut down cores and run slow. When I play games on my Note 4 and Note 10.1 2014 tablet (both Kitkat), temps hit 145 F with no ill effects... charging or not. Nav gets hot for sure, but I've not experienced any problems myself.

Samsung I find tends to throttle the least out of the manufacturers.

Moto G users in India have been reporting lots of problems with Moto Gs getting hot and slowing down when doing intensive things with the phone and/or quick-charging. This is one of the reasons I'm not going to jump on a 4th Gen. G right out of the gate. That an Lenovorola blaming it on India's weather

Your vent mount experiment gave me an idea, though: Maybe somebody will come out with an A/C unit for the Moto G4? :)

The issue is the 617 processor which is using the 28nm process. The Exynos 7870 is pretty similar to the 617,except that it uses the 14nm process, which would run much cooler. Coupled with the a53 which is not really designed for high performance... Personally I would avoid any 617 phone if you are doing prolonged intensive processes.

Charging and usage us a problem with many high end phones including my g4 and 10,so not really complaining there. The s7 and Note 5 though perform much better while charging....
