Navigation with G-Maps broken with Lollipop?

I have not used my N7 2013 much this summer besides playing a game and some simple tasks. But recently I had to use the navigation with google maps on a 3 hour drive. It freezes up a lot and has to restart. When I had the past OS's of android on this device it never had any problems navigating offline after I set my route while connected to wifi.

Is this a common problem now with the current version of Lollipop?
