So...

I've got a Moto Maxx (also known as the Droid Turbo in the US on Verizon). I like the phone, but I'm thinking about a Nexus 5X.

Nexus 5X over Maxx:

1) Better software updates as a Nexus device

2) Fingerprint scanner

3) More consistent camera performance

4) Lightweight

5) USB-C

Maxx over 5X:

1) Better screen

2) More RAM

3) More internal storage at 64GB

4) Moto apps and Moto display

5) Qi + quick charge

So is the Nexus worth the move?

It totally depends on your priorities. Some of the pluses you list for the Nexus 5x don't interest me, like the fingerprint reader. I played with it and that was enough. And, some of the pluses for the Moto X didn't interest me, either. Consider how you use your phone, decide which features are critical, and make your choice.

I will admit that one thing I like about the Nexus 5x is that I'm playing with Android N beta and enjoying it. On the other hand, I play no games so features important for that, like lots of memory and the screen, don't float my boat.

I do appreciate your reply. The truth is the Maxx is closer to what i want. The two big issues are Moto's now suspect commitment to update...they took forever to go from 4.4.4 to 5.0.2 on this model, and are taking the same time to go to 6.0.1. in fact, I'm using a soak test version of 6.0.1.

But the camera is a feature I'd like to use more but cannot do so with how inconsistent the camera is with the Maxx. For those two reasons, I'm considering the 5X.

But I'm still not sure, so I'd figure I'd ask here...

I have gone through about 6 phones over the last year. iPhone 6+, Old Galaxy Nexus, Note 3, Note 4, BB Classic 10, LG G4 - (Ordered up a One Plus 3, had to send it back did not see that it would not work with Verizon) and now the 5X. Out of all these phones (love BB, but it is dying) so far I have been most happy with the 5X for mainly one reason - I am trying to stay mostly stock with Google. The phone has been working very well for me - simple, light, and not too big. The software has been smooth (Updates will happen much faster), and camera for me takes some great pictures.

In the end it is a matter of choice - if the One Plus 3 could have worked on Verizon I would have stayed with that phone, but overall I am happy with the 5X. Then again I have gone through quite a few phones trying to find the one I like.

I was never interested in the camera since I have an excellent digital camera. I shoot in RAW and the photos I consider keepers get edited. But, the phone cameras are getting pretty good. Some are offering RAW files to export and edit. I'm having to learn about cameras and phones but it looks like that might be my future. I went to a graduation ceremony yesterday and I took photos inside the hall with my camera and my phone. The phone did better in the low light. I'm looking forward to getting some prints made next week.
