Neat trick with copy/paste

The built-in texting application does not allow copying only a portion of a message to my knowledge. Same thing goes with the pictures below. Simply trying to copy the coupon code does not allow when you have it in regular screen mode. When you have it in the view where you would switch between apps it allows for selecting certain text within a message rather than copying the entire message.

It was a feature added on purpose by Google....

Well, sure - I mean, it didn't mysteriously appear out of nowhere on its own.

But, why not just put it directly in the messaging app instead of "hiding it" in the one place that no sane person would expect to find it?

I know when I have gotten 2 step verification codes I have seen the option to copy the code from the pop up /drop down notification. I would swear I have done so from the Message app as well.

You are correct. That is a super handy. It only offers to copy the code though. If you wanted any other portion of that message you'd be out of luck.
