ok..i absolutly hate this 2.3 update, last night my texting keyboard went haywire everytume i put a letter in..and ive come to the decision to sbf to froyo and rom...BUT..i have been reading up on roms and slightly confused. My delima is ive seen people who run froyo roms on froyo and ginferbread roms from gingerbread. I was wondering if i found a rom i liked after i sbf to froyo would i have to run strictly froyo roms? What if i like a gingerbread rom, do i have to go through installing a rooted gingerbread then rom? completely puzzled and a lil guidance by someone who knows what they doing would b nice! thanks

You'd need to pick a ROM first and then follow the instructions. Liberty Gingerbread requires rooted Gingerbread as a start (which is flashing to Froyo and then flashing a rooted GB install and then installing Liberty). CM7, on the other hand, uses the Froyo kernel and uses that as a base, but is running Gingerbread.

Note that the built-from-scratch ROMs like CM7 and MIUI don't have any of the proprietary features Motorola builds in, the Blur camera is pretty good and you won't have HDMI support for example. Other than that, look at the development and support communities and see which one you like best.

well ive herd alo of good things about MIUI, Liberty, and Apex..what would be requierd for them..i understand Froyo with liberty..also does it matter what gingerbread it is? there are abunch of leaks out and ive always been to worried to sbf and try n root but this update sucks..cant even keep my wifi up and going anymore on my phone

Those are all decent ROMs. You'll need the rooted v4.5.596 Gingerbread for Liberty Gingerbread but there is a Froyo-based version still around. Essentially you'll definitely be SBFing back to Froyo, rooting, then either installing a Froyo-kernel or Froyo-based (those are very different) ROM or installing the v4.5.596 rooted GB leak and then installing a ROM on top of it.

You could try the replacement keyboards if that's the only real issue you're having. I like GB better than Froyo. I've also been using a replacement keyboard since Froyo because I like it better.

This is great advice. Go to Google and search Favorite Roms for your specific phone and then read the responses from the other users. Then weigh the pros and cons for that specific rom. Once you've made your decision on which one you would like to try, the OP (opening page) should explain what you need to do to get your phone ready for the install. The most important thing about installing custom roms is reading the directions carefully and follow the instructions to a T to avoid potential problems. If something doesn't make sense, ask questions first.

You may want to look some things up on YouTube. I found it easier to watch someone flash a rom than try to follow steps. I'm currently running liberty gingerbread with launcher pro on top. Work great.
