Need a plan for my Nexus 5

Thanks for the info. My main concern is unlimited messaging and data. I don't know how T-Mobile can offer more for half what AT&T costs. It's crazy how much cheaper T-Mobile is.

T-Mobile is definitely cheaper. Since you can get a good signal in your area, it's better to use them instead of AT&T. In fact, I've only heard of 3 advantages for AT&T:

1. AT&T's coverage may be greater in some areas. This may not affect you now, but if you decide to travel or go on vacation, you may find yourself in an area with no T-Mobile signal.

2. AT&T's signal may penetrate buildings better. This is important if you work inside a big office building, for example.

3. AT&T has conditional call forwarding. This is important for using some features of Google Voice. If you don't use Google Voice, you don't have to worry about it.

The beauty is that both T-Mobile and AT&T have prepaid, no contract plans. So, if you're going on a trip in an area with no T-Mobile signal, you can just sign up for AT&T temporarily and use that for your vacation. Once you return from your trip, you can go back to T-Mobile.

I'm in a huge office building and amazingly I still get 5 bars of LTE. Being on prepaid is great though for the reason you mentioned.

Because T-Mobile doesn't even have half the network coverage AT&T has. It covers basically just cities and major inter-state highways. T-Mobile doesn't have the means to invest more on infrastructure building like big dogs AT&T and Verizon. So, it has to be smart on business side to attract customers. If you get decent signal where you live, you are fine.

T-Mobile actually admitted they had less coverage and said they had a plan to roll out a more widespread network (all towers being built as of now are LTE) along with replacing most of their 2G network with LTE by the end of the year. With how aggressive they have been in the past half year or so I would be surprised if they don't come clean on their word. I don't have T-Mobile but the way they are doing business makes me very interested. We shall see how fast their coverage improves.

They're still not using the Metro PCS towers that I assume they own after buying Metro out. Even just that would help.

Just set mine up with a Straight Talk prepaid SIM. $45/month, unlimited minutes and texts, 2.5GB data (including LTE) and runs off AT&T towers. My phone even shows AT&T as the carrier on the notifications panel.

Cheaper than AT&T GoPhone and better coverage than T-Mobile.

So far seems to be working well.

Not intending on hijacking this thread but mine says HOME. Are my APN settings incorrect? I am using the AT&T straight talk micro Sim card.

Just a heads up that T-Mobile is bumping up the data allowances on their Simple Choice plans as of March 23rd. The 500mb plan will now give you 1gb, and the 2.5gb plan will now give you 3gb. I'm probably going to drop down from the unlimited plan to the 3gb plan at that point, save $10 a month.

I would have gone with the $30 plan, but I use more than 100 minutes of talk in a month and the overages would probably end up being just as much as an unlimited plan would cost.

Not sure. I'm using the APN settings I found on Google somewhere. I definitely didn't enter "AT&T" anywhere in my settings, however.

If at all possible, could you screen shot those settings over to me? I don't want to completely hijack this thread. Thanks again.
