Hey all! I'm fairly new to this forum, but have always heard good things about the site! So I figured I'd come here for some tablet help! I am currently looking for a tablet, but there are quite a few and I do not know which one to get. I want a tablet that I can customize a lot aka root! I am not looking for anything to pricey. I am willing to spend around $450 on it. I mostly want it for college so I can carry it to class, take notes, possibly read a few textbooks (if it will allow), watch movies on it, and something where the touch is very responsive. If it has an HDMI port that would be ideal as well. Is there any tablet that stands out for these particular needs and which would be the best? Thank you in advance to anyone that can help me out with this dillema. Thank you very much.

Since I've asked this question I've see it pop up 2-3 or times, first advice is to check my post and a couple of others that are on the 1st page. Other then that I pretty much want to tell you that nearly almost every Android device that has recently been released are almost identical, its like buying an Android phone, the App market is pretty much going to be the same, the only thing your investing in is probably the hardware. Do you want a pen to write on the tablet, are you looking for kick ass accessories, do you need full ports, SD slots, are you more into Netflix or what... Those are the questions that need to be answered...Once you figure that out it'll narrow your Tablet's down to 10 or so lol.

At this time it seems that there are 2 tablets that would address your needs: the Toshiba Thrive and the Lenovo ThinkPad. Do a little search to find our more about them.
The thing that stands out is that the both have a full size USB port as well as HDMI, though the Lenovo's is not full size.

Thank you all for the help. Everyone's input has helped me out a lot! I appreciate all the help. I just have one more question. When I get whatever tablet I get the main thing I will do is root it. Is there any device that is particularly best for rooting or are they all the same pretty much?

If you will root your tablet, you can go to search around based on the spcs. and configurations based on your needs and find the right one for you. No matter the tab is from top brands or even unbranded, it would be OK if you're going to root it. Actually, that's what I did to my tab. I searched a lot and finally got my tablet on a comparison site like this, android tablet. After rooted and installed my favor apps, my tablet works pretty well though it's not iPad or a member of any top brands.
