Well, I finally did it... I semi-bricked my phone and can't get it back without help from someone else with a Strat.

I was trying to remove the symlinks from busybox in /system/bin and I ended up deleting something I shouldn't have... and the backup I *thought* I made of /system is empty.

So, if one of your who is freshly rooted could help me get a system partition image, That would be awesome.

To do so, go to adb and type in the following command:
Code:
dd if=/dev/block/stl10 of=/sdcard/factoryfs.rfs bs=4096

Then post the factoryfs.rfs file if you can (or reply here if you want to send it directly.)

Make sure the file has a size to it... apparently when I tried it, it said it worked but the file size is zero. :-(

Uploading now. 330 MB. I also did an adb pull of /system so if you know the specific files you need I could post them. Ill post a link to factoryfs when it finishes uploading. Probably about ~30 mins.

Can recovery.bin be dumped the same way? I have been trying to figure out how to dump the recovery from adb.

Awesome! You are THE man!

Yeah, I'll need the whole thing from dd. Odin is my only hope at this point.

I am not sure why my dd of it caused me to end up with 0 bytes but it worked for you. Odd. But I am glad you are taking the time to help. My only other option was to go buy another one, root it, and dd it myself! :-)

As for recovery, you can extract it with dd as well.... however, from talking to the #charge guys, recovery.bin is a carbon copy of zImage... same md5 and everything. Apparently Samsung bakes up one kernel with recovery and init in it, and flashes to both places and depending on which partition they are in affects which one they boot: android or recovery. I think its rather weird but I'll take their word for it.

So if you have the Stock zImage I posted, you have recovery. :-)

Interestingly strange.. Have you already tried flashing recovery from charge? If you haven't I might.. :)

Yeah, the #charge guys told me the CWM recovery should work, but we'll need to pack it into our own kernel. If you flash the Charge kernel, it may not boot. I am not sure yet, but I was in the process of finding out when I caused this little issue that you are nice enough to help me fix.

In the meantime, I do want to report that I was able to get OpenVPN to work with my new kernel, and with busybox installed, CIFS worked too... so those will be part of my new kernel when I release it. :-)

EDIT:

That worked MARVELOUSLY! THANK YOU!!

Odd problem.....Please someone figure this out.....

Ok so to start off I used knightcrusaders guide to root my phone (No Problems), I used the sdk method to root my Droid 2 and was happy to root this phone as well.

The issue is with the NAT I think on my phone. My phone will connect to 3g and 4g whichever is available just fine. Every 15 or 20 minutes however my data connection drops for about 15 secs to a minute and then reconnects. This gets really annoying as I used my Droid 2 tethered for internet most of the time on my laptop and would also like to use this Stratosphere for it as well since i have unlimited data.

I use barnicle wifi tether and it says that it can't set the eth0 interface to ad-hoc mode but I think eth0 refers to the usb tethering interface not the wlan interface and it still broadcasts the ad-hoc over the wlan interface so that all works. The program also says unable to set MTU of WAN interface pdpbr1: invalid argument. This error I don't understand but hey it still tethers and I'm using it now to write this. Verizon (even the real network guys i finally got to call me after issuing a trouble ticket) said there is no problem with the network and that my phone shouldn't be dropping the WAN every 15 minutes or so. They told me to exchange the phone (since its been rooted i can't). Any Ideas? When the phone drops the connection barnacle says "NAT: restart: network is down" then it waits for the uplink interface and then reloads the NAT service and I can reconnect to the internet.

Please any help is appreciated...I have fedora 16 and windows xp dual boot and I am pretty knowledgeable about compiling and installing stuff but I have no idea where to even start. I can't figure out why the hell my phone just resets the connection every like 15 mins. I think its got something to do with software rather than actual network problems.
