need help rooting optimus v froyo 2.2.1 z4 root no good

i recently bought an lg optimus v (virgin mobile) and i am trying to root it. i have tried the z4 root and it did not work. it was successfully downloaded and installed but does not root the device. my device is running ANDROIDS 2.2.1 froyo.-- model #VM670 -- baseband VM670ZV4_60401001--KERNAL 2.6.32.9-- BUILD #FRG83--SW VERSION VM670ZV4--HW VERSION 1.2. I am completely new to all this and this is my first smart phone, android device or anything like this. i also am not familiar with running computer programs or moving files or ANYTHING like that. Like i said I am COMPLETELY GREEN when it comes to this stuff. However, i am EXTREMELY interested in all this rooting, moding, hacking etc. so if n e one who is knowledgable in this stuff wouldnt mind hooking up with me to teach or show me how to do this stuff, i would GREATLY appreciate it. my email is keithp62@hotmail.com. also was curious if the root programs for devices such as optimus one , optimus s , or other optimus variants would be compatible with my device. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST I AM A 30 YR OLD WITH 2 CHILDREN. THE REASON I SAY THIS IS SO THAT IF N E ONE DOES DECIDE TO HELP, U CAN B COMFORTABLE KNOWING I AM NOT A KID OR IMMATURE I WILL LISTEN AND WILL NOT HOLD N E ONE BUT MYSELF RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGING FREEZING OR BRICKING MY PHONE. I AM AWARE OF THE RISKS AND AM STILL WILLING TO PROCEED.AND I AM NOT TRYING TO LEARN THIS STUFF FOR BAD. SOLELY FOR IMPROVING MY DEVICE AND ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES. thank u for taking time to read this and thank u in advance to n e one who gives me advice.
