Hello, I just got a Nexus 4 and I am needing help with moving my texts, calendar and contacts over. I backed up my blackberry onto my computer using the Blackberry Desktop Manager (.bbb). Is it possible to restore this back up to my Nexus 4? If this is not possible, I have my calendar and contacts synced up to Outlook, is there a way to sync it to the Nexus 4? I suppose I would loose my texts if I did the second method though...

I read some forum posts about using Go Backup Pro or Titanium Backup, but I don't know if that applies in my situation.

Thanks!

Assuming you can export you contacts (not sure about the calendar..def not texts) from BB desktop manager in a .csv file, or if you had something like VZW backup assistant on your BB, you can just import them into you Google account. Those apps require root access, and would've had to be on your BB too, so not applicable here.

Importing CSV files - Gmail Help

Welcome! I remember being a BB convert years ago. I still consider it one of my best tech decisions..another being my dropping Outlook (after being a devout fan from it's inception) for Gmail.

There is no way I know of to import BB Desktop Manger data into an Android platform, so I think your text may be gone, but here's a thread with a few different options for syncing Outlook to your N4: http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-4/248664-syncing-n4-outlook.html

As I stated in that thread, the most seamless thing you could do would be to abandon Outlook and get on board with Gmail (it's email, contact and calendar), but that's your call. It has everything you need and lets you access all your data from any computer, anywhere.

Transitioning from BB to Android, just remember two things...

1. It's different.
2. If you don't like the way something works on your phone (like your dialer or your calendar) there are an unbelievable number of apps that you can download (most free) that you might find better.

Let me throw 2 more things out from a previous BB owns perspective.

One thing that I really missed was the BB dialer. I found a free Android one called Dialer One that behaves similarly.

In regards to backing up, if you commit to using Gmail, backups aren't the same big deal that they were with BB. As long as you're using Gmail's calendar, email and contacts, if your phone ever dies, or you reset it, or you get a new device, you just sign into your Gmail account and a few minutes later, everything that you had is back on your phone (or a totally new/different one).

ConTejas, thanks for that advice. I was able to export my contacts as a .csv from Outlook and import them into Gmail and then merge duplicates.

greydarrah, Thanks for your advice. I wish I could just abandon Outlook as you suggest, but my work uses it. I use gmail for my personal email. From your post link I learned that Google Sync has been discontinued as of Jan 30th, 2013. Does anyone know if you can utilize Google's replacement protocol to achieve the same sync capability from Google Calendar to Outlook (vice versa)? The google help page doesn't seem to mention the information I seek.

I just found a possible solution for syncing Outlook to my phone using MyPhoneExplorer. Does anyone have experience using this?
