So I'm new to Android. Recently made the jump from my Windows Phone to the Note 5, "Best.Decision.Ever.", but I'm still unfamiliar with all things Android. My wife currently has an iPad mini and it needs to be replaced and I want to steer her away from Apple if possible and a Surface won't work because of the app gap and app quality problems still present. She is currently back in school and wants a bigger tablet that she can run the Windows Office software on and I want her to have the capability to write on it and use it in class for taking notes. Other than the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2, which is almost perfect, what other options do I have to choose from? I really like the Note Pro but Samsung says it's discontinued and so buying one causes me concern in the area of support. I need it to be a viable device for a couple of years at least. And as an addition to my wish list for the perfect tablet, LTE for AT&T would be a bonus.

If you want a tablet with an optimized stylus, then Samsung is your main option. The Tab A has an S Pen: Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7" 16GB With Pen Gray SM-P550NZAAXAR - Best Buy. The stylus that other non-Samsung tablets may come with is usually just a substitute for your fingertip, without any special features.

If you can sacrifice the writing option, then consider the Nexus 9, the new Google Pixel C, or (if you're on a tighter budget) the ZenPad S 8.0. I generally avoid the carrier-specific LTE-enabled tablets, because they often don't get updated as often as the wi-fi versions. If you have a data plan that includes mobile hotspot on your phone, you can use the phone as a wi-fi hotspot for the tablet.

Appreciate it. The pen is definitely a requirement. I like the LTE because my work doesn't allow WiFi or WiFi hotspots. It's a government mandate thing.

From what I can tell, the Note Pro 12.2 is probably your best option, then. I don't see the Tab A as an LTE device.
