Need some help with VZW S4 and Pioneer 4100NEX Android Auto

I have handsfree disabled.

Im going to work on programming my ASWC1 today or tomorrow, would be PERFECT if i can get it to work. Voice button is out fo the way on the other side of the screen lol, should be closer to the driver.

Have you tried rebooting the phone? Lollipop does funny stuff to my phone sometimes and rebooting it fixes everything lol.

OR calibrating the touch screen on the head unit might fix the voice button not recognizing being pushed. When i push mine it takes a second then it beeps and turns red when its ready for a command.

Verizon S4 working with Android Auto:

With some help from my local shop, my Verizon Galaxy s4 works with Android Auto on the 4100NEX. Hope my checklist might help:
- stock upgrade to Android 5.0.1 per Verizon push (no root, vanilla OS)
- Google Play Services 7.5.71
- had paired the phone with the Pioneer to do voice and music play per the Pioneer apps already before starting to work on Android Auto
- had local shop (High Tech Auto in El Cerrito Calif]) upgrade Pioneer OS to newest patch
- local shop verified that high-quality usb cable with female end was in the usb2 port of the Pioneer unit, with female end in my glovebox
- installed android auto on the phone per google play store
- (important) connected phone to the female lead in the glove box with original Samsung usb cable. (cheap cable did not work)
- start Android Auto on phone
- select the applications option on the upper left hand corner of the Pioneer home screen.
- wait through an "incompatible blah blah blah" message on the Pioneer for like 10 seconds
- Android Auto then comes up on the Pioneer, and phone screen is red-orange and unresponsive.

It works as advertised. The cable seems to charge phone, or at least maintain the charge while working, but I don't have extensive evidence yet as haven't driven far with the nav on.

When you disconnect the phone from the cable, phone and Pioneer go back to home screens.

I went through a few cables but the stock white samsung cable is the only one that worked for me. Also down load an app called "Galaxy charging current" its free and it tells you what you are charging at with every cable. The stock one i am getting 1900mA through the head unit so its like plugging it into the wall. With other cables i was only getting 600-760mA which is why the phone would die even while charging because of bluetooth gps etc etc etc.

At work i get 1200mA, i think anything 1200+ would be ideal for all the use while on AA.

What does your phone use when connected via bluetooth for phone and media and you hit the voice command button on your HU without android auto running?

i am not sure i understand what you mean.

If not connected to AA, i can hit the phone button on the head unit or the microphone on my car and everything goes through fine.

Uses head unit mic to hear you and then bluetooth to send that to the phone

Without AA connected, the phone has to use an application to handle the voice request. Without a default application set, your phone should ask you which one you want to use and also if you want to use that application "just once" or "always." If you have a default set, your phone will just open your default application to handle the voice recognition request. You may have to figure out which application is set to automatically handle that request and prevent it from automatically handling the request.

Thought this would get me closer... in the Pioneer head unit, I clicked the voice command button while in the Bluetooth Phone function. My phone popped up a prompt to make an app a default. I chose Google.

Went back to Android Auto, still no response from the microphone icon.

I read on the forums re pairing bluetooth sometimes needs to be done on these headunits. Maybe that would fix the mic issue

On the head unit? I might try that. I think I might already have, but I'll do it again.

i can still answer a phone call when in AA.... so the microphone connects to the phone in that way.

but pushing the mic icon in the upper right does nothing. also, it still won't read texts.
ordered a G4 today, but still want to get this to work!

If I read correctly, you are on a stock Verizon S4 which can connect to Android Auto with voice/text control.
I really hope I don't have to factory reset specifically for this issue.
But I've uninstalled, reinstalled, wiped cache partition.

Yes I am on stock Verizon s4 using stock Samsung white cable. I did do a full factory restore last week just to see if it would work. So my os is clean.

I will try a factory restore. Since I've done this before, and found that I can get some of the apps I've downloaded from Google Play Store even if for some reason they are not listed (like my favorite "Galaxy Alpha Wallpapers") and use a Samsung account to handle the Memo/Calendar business I think I should be good.

Just remember to back up you photos and videos on the device storage. I forgot to because I thought they were all on SD card. Lost them all but oh well.

One last thing, are you using TouchWiz home? Or have any device administrators active?

Weird, when you factory reset, did you go right back into Lollipop? Last time I did this I had to upgrade into Lollipop.
No it went right back into lollipop. Some menus looked different afterwards but still lollipop.

Samsung has a Backup program i think its called Kies or Keis. I havent used it but supposed to make factory ressetting really easy.
