need to root for wifi tether and GPS fix

Hi folks,

I was rooted prior to Gingerbread, but now am stock and I find it overwhelming to keep up with all of the android rooting community. All I really want is wifi tethering and GPS stability. Does anyone know the quickest, EASIEST way to accomplish this?
