Needing Bluetooth functionality with External Mic in Headphone Jack

Hey guys - new member here. Tried a fair amount of searching but probably not using the right terms.

I will be upgrading to the 10+ soon and instead of the pittance Verizon was offering for my Note 8, I am going to turn it into a mobile vlog rig to create content to compliment my podcast.

Bought a Rode VideoMic Me and received it today. However, for the life of me I couldnt get audio to record through the microphone once it was plugged into the phone (it does have a TRRS connector so I was leaning towards an issue with the camera software.)

However, on a whim I disabled bluetooth and VOILA! the mic began working flawlessly and audio was being recorded.

I am happy now that the microphone works, but this causes me another huge headache as my handheld gimbal stick uses Bluetooth to connect to the phone.

I gotta figure out how to have Bluetooth functionality while the Rode mic is plugged in. Any of you guys have an idea on what I need to do?

Don't have anything with Media connected to Bluetooth. The problem is that both the mic and the remote are Media devices, so you can't have a plug-in mic and a Bluetooth remote running at the same time. And there's no other remote camera control for the phone except running VNC and controlling the phone from a laptop. (Server on the phone, client [viewer] on the laptop.)
