Netflix not yet compatible with Thunderbolt?! Rage.

To me, it is very hard to imagine that a large corporation would not realize that they are practicing an unsustainable business model resulting in them making such a drastic price increase in a short amount of time. If that disorganization exists in that company, than I am not sure that I want to continue to drop money in it, hoping that their streaming selection will get better. Greed or not, a price increase is a price increase; and if I felt that the additional money would have been worth it, I would have stayed.

You say they are "making such a drastic price increase in a short amount of time", but there are two things that offset that.

1) The big number you keep seeing is 60% price increase, but that has to be put into perspective. When you are dealing with numbers, or in this case prices, that are so small it really only takes a miniscule increase in prices to reach such a huge percentage. If you have a service that cost $1 a month and they start charging $1.75 a month then that's 75% increase!!!!! Sounds dramatic doesn't it? And yes it's a factual statement. If however you have a service that cost $75 a month and they increase prices to $75.75 then it's a 1% increase, big whoop. Same price increase, just different perspective because the starting price was so low to begin with.

2) I think you really have to factor in how long their service has been around at the lower rate. They could have jacked up the prices 60%, or more, in anticipation of the licensing renewal but waited until they actually HAD to do it. Maybe it would have been better for them to do it earlier, but it certainly wouldn't have been better for the consumer.

Like I said before though, at least people who are severely unhappy have the option of cancelling or adjusting their service since it's not a contract situation.

A 60% increase is a 60% increase. While it may only be $6 a month, it's a 60% increase from what I once was paying. An annual increase of $72 is a sizeable chunk of money, especially for the recession we are in now. I'm glad that there is no contract so one could cancel at any time, but at the same time, if there was a contract, one would be able to grandfather into the old rate. Pros/cons of every system.

As I have already stated, I think that this increase was the wrong way to go about it. Since they are offering streaming-only or dvd-only at a lower rate, most people will choose which they prefer and Netflix will make less (or they just may cancel altogether). If they were to offer dvd-only and streaming-only at $8.99 and the combo at a discounted $11.99, they would have kept more customers and made more of a profit on the dvd- and streaming-only packages. Just my take on it.

On the Netflix pricing issue, I am also affected by this. And I have decided I will cancel my disk-in-mail service and keep only my streaming service (which I use all the time on two TVs).

About Netflix losing money because of their pricing decission... personally, I doubt it. What I think is that Netflix realized that the CD-in-the-mail option was costing them more than it was making for them (at the current rate). So, they actually would rather that people cancel that service than keep costing them more money. I figure the new pricing is "fair", but not what us legacy users are used to. To me, the in-the-mail service is not worth even $6.00/mo because 99 percent of what I watch is an impulse decision and is streaming. I also don't seem to have any better luck choosing "good" in-the-mail movies than streaming movies. So, what the heck.

Just noticed netflix in the market with the Thunderbolt listed as a supported device. So without reading through this whole thread does that mean it works for us now?

I was able to install Netflix through the web market but I am unable to watch videos, it starts to load, then closes and a message in the notification bar shows up saying DRM License required.

I would agree, but Netflix's streaming section is pitiful. There are hardly any new releases and all of the older movies that I would want to see, I have already seen. To me, there's no reason to have Netflix for just the streaming. And to get it just for the dvds is stupid, when there is redbox. Netflix took a gamble with these new prices and it is my opinion that they shot themselves in the foot.

It wasn't so much that they took a gamble as much as it was necessary. It's been known for awhile now that they have several licensing agreements coming up for renewal, now that studios know how well they are doing there is no doubt that those fees are going to go way up. With their overhead increasing that much they have to generate more revenue.[/QUOTE]

Well according to our business supportive political party you increase revenues by decreasing prices.

The market is weird. I often search for common apps with their correct names and it fails.to find them. For example today I searched for radio.com and mp only found wsradio.com. to get radio.com I had to download from their website then the link gave me the choice to download from mp and it was there all along! I downloaded it from mp and it works.fine. what's up with that?

I hope it Comes with gb as I miss using it when I was rooted

I just got off the phone with netflix and was told it is not working due to the recent update we have recieved, and they are aware and pushing to get this fixed ASAP. Has anyone not installed the recent update and tried the netflix app?

I am stock and up to date on the ota updates. The Netflix app released this early am did not work. The one just released about an hour ago (11:00 MDT) now works great.

The update works like a charm... this calls for a 90 minute bathroom break so I can watch From Dusk till Dawn before my account expires.
